Hi everyone, just wondering has anyone got a solution for restless legs during the daytime. My left leg is giving me a lot of discomfort at night but I find it carries on during the day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Daytime restless legs.: Hi everyone... - Restless Legs Syn...
Daytime restless legs.
If you're still taking Madopar, that might explain your daytime symptoms.
I see from previous posts that you have Parkinson's and RLS and are taking Madopar. The Madopar is presumably essential for Parkinson's but it does cause Augmentation in RLS and it sounds like that is what is happening.
I attach an article from the US Parkinson's association and suggest you discuss this at length with your Parkinson's nurse & neurologist as this seems to be an issue with many Parkinson's patients. Maybe they can add another med from another class to deal with the augmentation as levopoda is needed for your Parkinson's but has a detrimental effect on your RLS.
I agree that you could be suffering Augmentation.
Often exacerbation of RLS symptoms and daytime is a result of something we are taking.
I have often wondered if Buprenorphine would be of benefit for Parkinson’s patients. A few weeks I contacted Michael J Fox Parkinson foundation with information .
Buprenorphine has been my life saver
I am happy to talk further.
What country do you live in ?
I’m in Australia.
Buprenorphine hangs onto less recptors in the brain than other opioids , hence some people I know who cannot usually take opoids heve been able to use buprenorphine. It slows down my gut and totally stops my legs from moving this has made me wonder if it would help Parkinsons tremor.
Sadly a lot of Parkinson meds agravate RLS
Very important for you to check your iron , Iron infusion fixed my daughters RLS but not mine
People on other meds often need a higher dose of Buprenorphine, O appreciate you are in a very difficult situation.
My daytime RLS is really getting up my nose. It’s hard enough to sleep at night and I can’t catch an hour or two of extra sleep through the day as my knees go off as soon as I lay down.
It sounds as if you are suffering augmentation. If you're taking a dopamine agonist, pramipexole, ropinirole or rotigotine or alternatively anything with levodopa in it, e.g. sinemet or madopar these all cause augmentation.
A couple of other drugs can cause augmentation but the risk is much lower than for any dopaminergic agent.
If you're not taking any RLS medication then you need to consider seeking treatment which is iron therapy, avoidance of aggravating factors and medication. The first recommended medication is either pregabalin or gabapentin.
I'm really only guessing, but I imagine you're taking Sifrol, i.e. pramipexole. If so it is causing your daytime symptoms and you ate recommended to wean off it. Iron therapy and avoidance of triggers are also recommended
