Hi Debbi It's the same for me. Sometimes a painkiller helps as well but I don't thjink I'd still be here if it wasn't for Mirapex. The thought of the short and long term side effects frighten the hell out of me, but without the damn stuff I think I'd be dead anyway. Sounds dramatic I know, but I honestly believe it.

Hi Arjay

I second what you say about Mirapexin but I wasn't aware of the 'long term' side effects that are worrying you. How much do you take and what are the side effects you are worried about?

Hi I the main long term problem with mirapex(and ropinerole, neupro patch) is augmentation. This is where the mirapex is mo longer as helpful and you have to up the dose, then up it again.Augmentation causes symptoms to occur earlier in the day, sometimes moves into other parts of the body(usually arms) and dosnt work quite as well as before. As many doctors dont know about augmentation they will suggest you up your dose which is only going to make the problem worse over time. This is why the new recommended dose is now only 2x0.088 tablets of mirapex or 1mg of ropinerole. When augmentation happens the only thing to do is stop taking the med amd either have a break(I am currently doing this) or switch to a different med.Medical advise and help is needed to do this as when you stop this kind of med the rls usually becomes very severe.Hope thid hrlps Johny

Thanks for your reply - Very helpful, I'm currently on 2 a day but I do sometimes get the symptoms earlier than I used to so guess augmentation is starting to rear it's ugly head!

I take 1 1/2 .25 Mirapex every night for RLS before I go to bed. Have been on it for 5 years now. Could not live without it. I also am on Gabapentin but still need the Mirapex.

Lee5 that is a good low dose of the Mirapex (Pramipexole) and 5 years taking that dose is good too. As you are also taking Gabapentin could be the reason you can keep the Mirapex dosage down. Sometimes taken a combination of meds can keep the dosage low..
