Change Drs. You need to use a RLS specialist. Usually you can find them at a University Sleep Clinic. I have been through 4-5 RLS doctors (trial & error on my part) before I found the right one that would listen and knew the latest. I have found that some of my former RLS doctors that were older( I am 75) were just looking for a paycheck. As I have suggested before on this site, look for your doctor at a university med school.I am in Atlanta & use a Dr at Emory in Atlanta.

Your GP is most likely not up to speed about RLS. You want a doctor with the resources to attend conferences with like Drs, where they can compare notes about their successes & failures.

Trust me,most drs have good intentions but not all doctors are equal.

jk3842,

Same story with me. My first doctors were not up to speed on RLS. They relied upon friends who had RLS and had other doctors for it. My first 5 doctors dismissed it all as a bad mental process and shrugged it off as unimportant.

I found a doctor who ran a sleep clinic and specialized in excessive movement as a cause of not sleeping. He retired as a professor at Northwestern University. He is not as cautious as regular doctors when it comes to medicine to control the jumping and the maddening sensations we have.

I have had about 10 years with him and have had some bad time, but not a lot.

Elaine what dose of Ropinerole are you on?

4 mg

That is a high dose Elaine .If it is not working as well or if you have had to keep upping the dose take a look at that article under my post named "Brilliant article" There is a link to an article about augmentation.Your med may be causing this. The new recommended daily dose of your med is now 1mg because of the augmentation problems the high doses can cause x

This condition also affects me in the daytime as well as taking ropinorol I also take gabapentin for nerve damage and tramadol for pain

Having symptoms earlier in the day is a sign of augmentation. You would probably be best weaning off the Ropinerole and increasing the other 2 meds under your doctors supervision. The high dose of Ropinerole can actually make RLS worse. This is what we mean by augmentation

I use 2mg extended release ropinirole in the evening plus a 0.5mg "boost" of the normal type around lunchtime (Yes, I know its too much according to Pippins2). I get a variety of different brands of the extended release version from the Chemist, and it sometimes seems that the different brands work differently. Sometimes it seems that changing brands has a beneficial effect and sometimes it seems that I take a week or so to acclimatise to a different brand. I have guessed that different brands release at different rates. You could try the extended release stuff, as I believe there is less of an augmentation issue with them. As with most things RLS it is difficult to establish what is consistent. For example I THINK I have seen an improvement by cutting down on sugar and sugary things. Try that?

Hi my daughter got me WII and the fit disk after my last blood clot to help legs get working again. I must admit just stretching them and simple yoga does help( in my case everyone's different)

I hate taking tablets so am seeking ways to stop ones I'm on. I am told jacuzzi help!!! But I think it's difficult as most Drs are unhelpful a lot don't recognize it anyway. I know someone who's tried acupuncture. With some success.
