That's a really good link posted by Jillygirl.

It's quite often thought that this life risking habit of taking up smoking is a right of passage, a bit like getting drunk and so young people feel that it's something that they must do.

Have you chatted to your son / daughter about smoking before? Have you actually asked him/her do they smoke? What has the response been like?

If possible, try and be open and honest with him / her about what your concerns are and why. That it really is for their own well being.

Without understanding what kind of relationship you ave with your son / daughter, it's hard to advise the best way forward.

I really do think that JillyGirl's post has great advice in it. With regards to 'a test to find out'.... Using these ways may not result in the best long term outcome on your relationship if not used carefully.

If he/she s smoking and won't admit it to you, but you really believe they are, then there are ways that you can help steer them into the right direction to quit.

Let us know what you think on all the advice so far and we'll try and help you out more.

Hi, every1 an thanks 4 replys, I have a grt relasonship wiv my son and lv him 2 bits I don't smoke and never have, he used all excuses like its m8's ect then admitted he tried it, then I found out he tried cannabis but got told he was smokin it, but theproblem I have got is he has ADHD and is on class A drugs off doctor 4 thisso while it is doin grt in school, he has only wanted 2 go out the last few mths and this is wen all this has started, children wiv ADHD hav very addictive personalltys and r easly a follower than a leader, and r very stuburn and will lie, I check up on hime 50 times a day an nite, and he has 2 b in 4 9pm so if he is doin these things I hav 2 stop it now? I hav ordered a cannabis test kit which will b ther this wk but I carnt find 1 4 cigys !!

i'm sorry to hear your son has ADHD, i understand the addictive personality part , it must be such a worry. Did you not find anything on the site Jillygirl gave you, i thought you would have, i couldn't find another site that could help, then again i'm not that great on computers, maybe Emjay will have other ideas to help you

could you speak to his doctor, might they be able to help?

Hi Littlelady, I have noticed since I stopped smoking ( six mnths now ) I can smell ciggy smoke anywhere, walking past people in the street or standing next to someone make,s my stomach flip, and to think I was like that for 40 years. I am sure you will smell smoke on your Sons clothing or in his hair, hope you dont though. Try telling him that Girls dont like the smell of Boys who smoke that might make him think.
