Pneumonia made me stop

I've been a smoker for a long time, I mavery fit and healthy, but caught pneumonia around Christmas. Couldn't smoke but was so sick it didn't bother me at all not having a cigarette. However as am feeling better, there are a few times throughout the day I feel like I want one, I try it but can't smoke it so put it out. I really don't want to start again but I can't help myself trying to. So I know the answer is to say to myself no. And tbh I absolutely hate the smell now so much so it makes me feel sick. But I don't really know how I tell my brain, I don't need it, despite it being pretty obvious to me that I don't, given I've gone 2 weeks without one! I've tried polos, that doesn't work for me. Any tips anyone?

Hi Pneumoniastopper well done !!🤗your starting your quit smoking journey there are lots of options for you . . The best is you’ve gone two weeks and your doing great when you feel you need to smoke try to keep yourself busy do something different that you usually do when you get that nicotine monster 👹 on your shoulders 😊 I still keep a pen in my mouth at times as it was the hand to mouth for me aswell , I smoked for 25 years ( might be over that) and was a heavy smoker things changed for me when I got told I had copd emphysema and I was only in my early forties and I was out of breath that much I couldn’t get up the stairs it was a great big kick up the bum I needed I didn’t stop straight away I went on to a vape and gradually reduced the nicotine it took me a good few months With a lot of emotions thrown in aswell . . . Maybe if your really struggling you could use NRT theres loads about you could try the patches lozenges Sprays or even the gum maybe speak to a pharmacist to see what’s the best option for you if you want to go down that route.. if you look on some of the posts previously on here theres lots of options to choose from . The urge will fade in time 😊. Your doing great don’t give in your doing fab! , 😊 let us no how your getting on and if we can help we will . . You’ve got this 💪😊 I’m glad your over pneumonia it can really knock you about can’t it ?stay warm in this weather

All the best on your quit smoking journey

I myself quit smoking using an inhalator which acted as hand to mouth . I gradually cut down the dosage and eventually stopped smoking. What ever you use or do to quit smoking , remember to be patient as it can take a while to be completely free of cravings. However it is cetainly worth it. If you are one of the fortunate ones you might quit within a short period and not get any cravings at all.

I look forward to supporting you , and please keep this forum close and we will help and support you all the way.

I will assign you a progress badge next to your name . If you let me know your exact quit date then we can update your progress. Also your name is entered into our Buddy Club should it interest you.

Hu Pneumoniastopper and welcome to Quit Support 🙋‍♀️

Lots of good advice already so I’ll just say your health is the most important thing you have and worth protecting 🛡️ I found chewing gum and keeping busy were really helpful. If you can manage some form of exercise, it doesn’t have to be enormous but this will also help. Yep I hated the smell too, so now you’ll be smelling extra fresh 🌺 keep up the good work, you’re doing great🚭💪👏xx
