Hello Quitters, my name is Alexander and I recently stopped smoking. Its been 1 week today and I do not feel like I am getting any better, actually I feel worse than ever. I am Asthmatic, and have been smoking since I was 12 years old. I am now 22 and the last 3 days Ive had the hardest time sleeping and my chest has been very tight. I feel short of breath and I feel like the more I think about it the worse it gets. Talking is very tiring to say the least and has me double thinking exercising. Im dying to work out but I feel like id pass out. I work 5 days in the week and that consist of lots of conversation due to me being in retail on the sales floor. I was driving my girlfriend today and while driving i was experiencing a light headache and a toght chest; I would like to add that it was very hot today in Boston MA and the traffic was a bit heavy.. My car is a 5 speed manual and I am constantly shifting gears because well... Race car.. Is this normal? Quitting and feeling like you are going to die? Was it a bad idea to stop smoking that fast? Going from 100 to 0, in other words from one day to the next no smoking at all? What should I do? besides go see a doctor and get an xray.

hey NoLakn! I was surprised to see you started so early :P But it's great that you have decided to quit! Welcome to the quit family.

I personally did not face any of these issue so I am not going to tell you if this is normal! Sum1 else probably will very soon. You try e-cigarettes. Maybe that' help you. Gradually you can reduce it's use and be smoke and nicotine free :) Also try deep breathing. I do it in the morning. Breathe in and count till 4, then breathe out and count till 4. It helps get the lungs back to shape.

Hi Alexander and welcome ๐Ÿ˜Š A week quit is fantastic so well done ๐Ÿ˜Š

Unfortunately when we quit it's our bodies turn to do the torturing.... By smoking we have done something intolerable, we have abused our bodies๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Now it's payback time!! You have abused yours for 10 years so it's gonna take more than a week to get it working properly again ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Tight chest, irregular breathing, lack of sleep are all part of the healing process, BUT if you are concerned then go and see your doc.

Quitting is the best thing you can do for your health and wealth.... You may even find that once your body gets used to no nicotine and the other 4000+ toxins, your asthma may improve๐Ÿ˜Š

Your quitting at a great time coz your still sooo Young that your body has time to completely repair๐Ÿ‘

Exercise is also good as it gets the gunk out of your system

Have a good mooch around the site and look at the pinned posts, you may find them useful ๐Ÿ˜Š

We have all been where you are so we know what your going through. Keep this site nice and close and we will support you ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

We say NOPE.... Not One Puff Ever....good luck with the quit and just holler if you need us ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€๐Ÿ€

Hi Nolakn , a big welcome to you , and all the way from Boston ๐Ÿ˜„ hey well done on quitting , all the symptoms you are describing all sound normal, and it's the body healing itself๐Ÿ˜„ Your also in the toughest time the early days/weeks, so be prepared for a bumpy road. But believe me it will get better๐Ÿ˜€ But I would just pop to see doctor if it continues, just to put your mind at rest ๐Ÿ˜Š Your doctor maybe able to also offer you advice about your quit . Also as Rajat says try deep breathing , it may help. Have a read of some of the pinned posts some useful info. Stay close to this site as we will support you on your quit journey๐Ÿ˜Š You can do this take one day at a time, . Promise it will get better๐Ÿ˜Š

Hi Alexander and a big warm welcome to quit support๐Ÿ˜Š

Yep unfortunately things seem to get worse before they get better but hang in there for better days ahead, coz it really is worth it. Good luck๐Ÿ€ and NOPE not one puff ever๐Ÿšญ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hey Nolaknโ˜€๏ธ

I was super sick the first month.... Aching teeth, headaches, tight chest , exhaustion, sweats ... I won't go on..... I went cold turkey but I'm not sure that is the best way.... Maybe get some nicotine gum or patch??? I'm just suggesting๐Ÿค” I got worse before I got better๐Ÿ˜กGrrrr

Your doing awesome ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป You'll get great advice on this friendly site๐Ÿ˜Š

It's great that you have decided to quit smoking! You may feel a little worse before you get better, it's your body healing. If it's really bad you can go to the doctor, but it's probably a mix of your body healing and still going through withdrawal. Good luck, you can get through it! :)
