Hi everyone. First time on this site. I have smoked for around 40 years. It is now day 11 for me & I'm doing ok. The cravings are lessening but my cough seems to be getting worse which I'm finding infuriating especially when I'm at work. I've tried to give up a number of times & lasted a year at one attempt only to start again. My reason for trying this time is my breathing is so bad now. In the mornings I felt like I was drowning in my own body. I go for walks with my sisters who have never smoked & struggle to keep up with them. I must say that even after 11 days I am breathing easier when I wake in the morning.

Welcome MC , well done on 11 days quit :) many of us have tried and failed, just call it a good practice run. You sound determined now, and are already noticing your breathing is getting better :) the cough is probably your lungs trying to get rid of all those toxins and chemicals we put in our body through smoking. It will get better, but if your worried maybe go to see GP to get checked out. Your in the early and hardest weeks, as you know. Are you using NRT ? Have a read of the pinned post , as very helpful information. Stay close to this site , wonderful people here to support you on your quit journey . Shout out if you need help . Stay strong you are doing Fantastic .

What is your quit date, as we award weekly badges up till 3 months, then monthly . This gives our members something to aim for, I know I use to enjoy getting mine :)

Loving the photo :)

Hi Maddyg, My quit date was 10th of May. I bought some of the strongest patches, I didn't want to rely on them but bought them in case I was really struggling. I put one on one day this week but went to bed with it on & can honestly say I had the worst nightmares ever, I know many other people who had the same problem. I've not used one since but I know they are there should I need one but I'd only use it during the day. I don't want to be reliant on them & to be honest I think I'm only substituting one problem with another. Thanks for your support.

Whooohoooo MC well done on 11 days😊

Yep coughing is a mare for some but if it persists just go and see your doc πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

But great that you have already benefited from improved breathing.... That's really goodπŸ‘πŸ˜Š

I bet your sisters are delighted with your progress. So keep us nice and close and we will help you as much as we can... NOPE.... πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€πŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸšπŸš

Thank you for your message. To be honest I haven't told my sisters yet or my son. I would hate to let them down so I don't say anything to them about trying to quit. So glad to have come across this site though. The support is amazing.

I told mine straight away..... I needed the extra support and they were delighted (especially my parents). Made me more determined to stay quit coz they would have been really disappointed if I caved in... πŸ€”πŸ˜ŸπŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

Tell them so you get extra support and it will also be harder for you to go back to the toxic little devils if they know. I know in the past when I've failed to quit the hardest part was telling family and friends. Think positive and no matter what think yes I am going to do this :-)

Hi MC and welcome to quit support and well done on 11 days :-) I am still in the early stages but finding it a breeze with the help from everyone on this site they are very supportive and no matter what you are going through on your quit journey share it with us because someone will have been there at some point and will be able to give you some great advice :-) love your shiny 1 week winners badge and just bare in mind week 2 is just around the corner :-)
