Hi Everyone, I am a newbie on this site and had some very interesting reading... I gave up for almost 6 months before and totally No idea why I fell off the wagon I thought I was doing so well... I am going cold turkey today and see how I go, I do have one of those Ecigs buried in the depths of one of my drawers (will probably be looking for it tonight)... To be honest I am ashamed to go back to the nurse that helped me initially quit at my doctors clinic.. I will check in with you all tomorrow hopefully with the same determination I have today...

Welcome Blinkingsocks💐
I'm cold turkey as well....... Not sure if that's a good way or a stressful way of quitting.... I had one week where I used nicotine gum because I was so sick from quitting in the first month but went back quickly to cold turkey...... I guess I keep my reason close for quitting ...... Stroke...... And I keep my quit support friends really close .....
We use the mantra..... Nope Not One Puff... Ever!!!!!
Thank you Arizonasands.. I know this isn't going to be an easy ride as I have been here before so guess I know what to expect... I Have to do this and would really appreciate any support I can get, so thanks again
You've stumbled on an amazing site...... These people will help you in anyway they can..... My addiction is psychological now after the first month being physically ill from quitting....... Headaches...... Nausea..... Aching teeth.... Back pain...... Water retention if you can imagine... Etc etc...........so when I get over tired ( which is most of the time) and/ or down, that's when mr Nic comes in for the kill...... It's such a crutch but the damage smoking can do REALLY scares me!!!!!!
You'll get to meet some great people..... All going through different stages of quitting ....
Welcome to Quit Support and welcome back to quitting!!!
Easy to fall off the wagon as nicotine is one of the most addictive substances on the planet! Helps immensely to have a "plan" when you start a 'quit' -- and a support group like this one helps an awful lot, too! Keep coming back!
Hi blinkingsocks, wishing you loads of luck with your new quit, it's scary really to think you can stop for 6 months and then start again....it really is not one puff ever! ☺good luck, this site is amazing by the way.. laura
Hi Blinkingsocks, we've all been there...fell off the wagon. I went 6 months about 5 years ago off the fags, then jumped straight back in as if I'd never stopped. I sincerely regret that now, I could have been so "over it" by now instead of on day 8, but hey ho I'm here again now. I truly believe that when we are ready and have the right determination and frame of mind, we will all succeed. I hope I'm at that stage now and hopefully you are too...keep going Kx
Wooohoooo - YAY for you!!! You can do this! Seek support here. We are all pulling for you! I am over 3 months, cold turkey myself and still can't believe it. It's up and down. Emotional, as you know. But stick with it!
I love you name BTW - too cute!
I had the eCig too from a try at quitting a couple of years ago, once I hit the 3 weeks quit I tossed it.
The admins here are amazing. The members are wonderful.
I agree --Alan Carr presents a very logical and no-nonsense approach to the power and "persuasion" of nicotine -- sooner or later --(preferably sooner) you just have to stop using it -- as he puts it: "in any form".
Yeah I searched "Alan Carr" wasn't the Allen Carr I was expecting
It's so very easy unfortunately for mr nic to catch us out☹️ but put the past behind you and stay determined👍🏼 you can do this, good luck🍀 Lots of people here to help you along the way and I honestly think that makes a huge difference😊 NOPE not one puff ever🚭
You have done the practice run D and now its time for the real one.
Be very proud of yourself for not giving up on the idea of having a smoke free life
In terms of support - you sure have come to the right place - we are all pretty good at that so keep this site nice and close..it does work as a great distraction when the cravings are strong..reading other stories just inspires you all over again
I too went cold turkey this time! yes it´s my third attempt. and yes I too went straight back like a duck to water. which makes me think allen carr maybe wrong!
Goodmorning spanishtigress,
Way to go on 3 months👏🎉🎉
Back in the day prior to the last 3 years, I could take smoking or leave it....
.. I just wasn't addicted and I read Allen Carr's book out of curiosity and it worked back then I suppose....... His mantra is yippee I'm a non smoker and there are no withdrawals and right he was ......back then for me.....
But..... In the last 3 years, I became a chain smoker..... I guess you could call it that.... My soulmate passed away suddenly and tragically and I turned to cigarettes as a psychological coping tool and then.... I became physically addicted to cigarettes as well as psychologically addicted.......
I was shocked this time.... Seriously .... I was physically sick as were and are a lot of people on this site in the beginning stages of quitting...... I could not believe I was physically addicted to cigarettes as just simply not smoking for a year or 2 or 3 or just smoking when I had a drink was never a problem for me nor a worry......
Sorry for going on so.... To make a long story short...... Allan Carr's philosophy and take on quitting doesn't work for me..... For me it's an inspirational read but I don't agree with everything..... I guess like anything....... It works for some and not so good for others...... I believe that NRT is better than smoking and I'm all for people using it even though I'm cold turkey for 4 months minus a week on nicotine gum because I was just so ill that week........
So have a great day and Not One Puff Ever ( no matter how we feel)
The Allen Carr book did nothing for me. He actually quit using hypnotherapy.
Gillian Riley's 'lazy way' book was more helpful to me. A nice little pocket size book, well written i.m.o.
Hi Blinkingsocks...how's day 2 going? Did you find your hidden ecig? I'm using one and I've got to say I'm barely even thinking of cigarettes. It must be doing some good. I hope I'm not still puffing on that in 30 years! I see it as more of a short term aid to help stopping not a replacement. Keep going Kx
Hi Fresh as a daisy, was definately my worst Friday night as I was on the night shift (long night) but yes escaped unscathed only just though... I am definately having a better day today thank goodness ;).... Belinda xxx
