Had to come and join a forum like this to meet people in same situation...have smoked for about 25 years...stopping twice while pregnant..and stupidly restarting again....hate the way I worry about smoking every day!! So decided tomm is the day to stop for good...I hope. Have bought patches, gum and have e cigs all ready for it. Anyone else starting tomm or just started??

Hi there Mindermummy

This is brilliant - there are 5 of us already planning to stop tomorrow so you MUST join us!

there's myself, Louby71, Joolz54, a man called Dave but I can't remember his user name and another man called Oscar, but as well as the group stopping tomorrow all the people on here who have already stopped are a fantastic support network so you would never be going through this on your own anyway - it's fantastic!

So let's do this!

I'll come back on tomorrow evening and hopefully we'll catch up and you can tell me how your day was!

Best wishes

Chrissie :) xx

Oh it's good to know I can come on here and say what I'm feeling...be good to know who is also starting tomm.... Right I have used e cigs before, but not gum or patches. I'm a little worried about the patches actually.... I usually smoke roughly 6/7 per day mon- fri, but them weekends could be about 10 per day. But the patches I got are for 10 or more per day...silly person I picked up the wrong ones....the gums are fine, they are for under 10 cigs per day. I don't really know what to try or use first.....?!? Is that patch going to be too much for me? Ie more nicotine than I would usually have?

Aup Mum :)

Rite, you flippinn come on here and flippin rant & rave if you want to gal, cos we've been through it our selves :o So we know what its like :)

I'm with you on the patches front gal, cos I think they would be too strong for you :o I know its a hard decision to make on whats best for you, cos we are all different :o

The gum is sound gal, cos what you do with that is, when you get the cravings, pop one in your mouth and give it some flippin chew, then when the craving has gone, park it up to one side of your mouth and when you get another craving, just start chewing it again :)

I've used the gum, very good too, but have found the lozenges better for me :)

Rite, you ask who is starting to quit tomorrow, Chrissie,Joolz, louby, Dave, Oscar and of coarse you Mum :) I'm hoping there will be some more yet, cos it dose help in numbers :)

Any questions you have, please ask :) cos if I cant help, I just might know a Lady who does eh :)

Hi MM

when I was asking about the e-liquids I was told not to go higher than I was already having so I assume that's the same for the patches. The ones you've got may be too high for you so you should take them back and swap them.

I think if you are using the patches, you shouldn't use anything else but I could be wrong there so wait to see if anyone else can help you.

You sound all prepared anyway so good luck!

Hey Mindermummy, welcome aboard :-) You've most definitely one to the right place for help and support and will hopefully have fun along the way :-)

Tomorrow looks like the perfect time for you to join in with everyone else and stop smoking :-)

Right, with regards to the products that you have at the ready here's my thoughts;

Patches: If you can swap them, then do so. However, even if they might be a tad strong, they won't do you any harm. You could give them a go and see how you get on and then just go down to the next step once they run out. If you do decide to use them then it will be highly likely that you'll notice them starting to itch not long after putting them on. You may also feel nauseous. This won't last forever and the longer you stick with them, the easier it will become. Whether you have bought the 16 hour or 24 hour, you could still take them off before you go to bed.

Gum: The gum is a great product when used properly and as Pete says if you just have a little chew on it when you need and then park it at the side of your gum - 'chew and park' :-) Another good way of using it is on the hour every hour (during waking hours - obviously) and then an extra chew as and when you feeling a craving coming on.

E-Cig: Professionally, as there are many, many different tyes and they are not regulated, I can't recommend the use of it until we understand what exactly is in it etc. However, if you decide that you are going to use it, then personally I would say that you just use it as and when you feel the need to smoke, just by having a few puffs of it. I would ask you to be very careful and mindful that you are not walking around with it constantly in your mouth or your hand and find you end up smoking more of it than you would a cigarette :-/

Combination Therapy: This is the term used when using more than one product at a time. It is safe to do this and is quite effective. Usually, combination therapy tends to be the patch plus an oral product.

Have you paid for your own therapies? If so, did you know that you could get them for free or for the price of a prescription? If you would like to know more about this, let me know and I'll get you details of your local stop smoking service or pharmacy who provide s,oing cessation treatments.

I think the gum is a good product for you to start with until you see if you can swap the patches :-)

Well, tomorrow s fast approaching and all you lovely folks are getting ready for your big day. It's all quite exciting :-)

I wonder how many of you will be deep in thought tonight or just pondering whilst having your last cigarette, kissing Old Nic for the last time and kicking him to the gutter ;-)

Stay positive everyone, this is the start for healthy new lives :-)
