Hey Foodiefan, welcome aboard to Quit Support :-)

Well done on reaching 2 days, your doing brilliantly :-)

Hang fire, because how you are feeling at the moment is a real positive sign that your body is starting to recognise that you now mean business! Unless you are using some form of nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), then there is now no nicotine in your system. If you are using any NRT, then there will be just enough to keep you going and it will help to take the edge off your cravings.

Read through our hints and tips section and start practicing the breathing exercises. They will really help you through these times.

What you are now feeling is normal, but I can promise that whether or not you smoke - the feeling will go away :-)

Stick at it and you will come through this :-)

change any habits that you had with smoking. I am now 46 days along the road. I always had a huge mug of coffee with a cigarette...I haven't drunk coffee at home since quitting....and it helps. Head down and keep ploughing through, you will be surprised at the amount of days that you are ticking off smoke free, well done.

Congratulations foodie fan you are doing great, it is the hardest thing you I have ever done. I found that 72 hours was a bad time for me as my body realised it was getting no further white sticks from me but now 9 weeks in and the cravings become less and less so stick with it, try chewing some gum when a craving appears from nowhere it helps me, we will all give you support and ideas of what has worked for us. even at nine weeks in Mr Nic creeps up on you when you least expect it and I also found over Christmas that alcohol seems to make me have even more cravings so cutting that out now. Good Luck and welcome x

Hiya Foodiefan, welcome to this lovely quit support site :) :)

I think the others have said it all, breathing exercise 1 is very good :) maybe go outside and jog on the spot for a minute or 2, and fill your lungs with that lovely fresh air, have a good old scream, erm, if there's nobody about eh :o Try thumping the cushions, thats helped some of us :D :D

Stay positive and focused on your quit, you will get there. Pete :)

Thanks to you all, what good suggestions. the breathing exercise genuinely helpful, and running on the spot strangely good?! Neighbours may think I am bonkers, but do I care...? Made a reasons not to smoke list last nite and stuck it on the fridge...that helps, but most of all, you guys and gals who are further down the road telling me to stick at it is great. Thanks to you all.

Hi again Foodiefan, thats great to hear that you made a list of reasons not to smoke :)

I too, made a list when I quit smoking, it does help to read it back to yourself, when needed eh :) Can we compare lists, do you think !

Why I want to smoke !!

1)They help me when I get stressed out. ( Although this might just be psychological )

2)They help me think. ( here again this might just be psychological )

3)It’s easier than quitting.

4)Simply enjoy it

Why I want to quit smoking !!

1)Breathe easier.

2)Coughing and spluttering.

3)Walk up stairs without getting out of breath.

4)Whiter teeth

5)Healthier gums

6)Breath not smelling of fags

7)Clothes not smelling of fags

8)Better complexion. ( Smooth skin, More colour, Less wrinkles )

9)Better circulation in my hands and feet

10)Better health all round

11)Have money to spend on what I WANT TO ( Not having to put money aside for fags )

12)Getting my taste back

13)Not having a Furry tongue

14)Getting my sense of smell back

15)No standing outside in the cold and wet

16)Not having to think if I have enough fags to last me the day

17)No yellow fingers

18)Not having to carry a pack of fags and a lighter around with me

This is how I got ready and focused for my quit date, I am sure that you could come up with some more of your own reasons, either for or against smoking, so get thinking and let me know, then I can put them on the list eh :)

Just 5 on my list

1. I will stop smelling of smoke

2. I can get tooth implants as smoking wrecked my gums which now need attention. Implants don't work well for smokers.

3. I feel more in control

4. No more cold pavements!

5. £60 per week to spend on nice things!

Thanks for your support.
