The Milton Keynes Stop Smoking Service consists of Level 2 qualified advisors offering support in 28 GP practices in Milton Keynes as well as in a number of participating pharmacies and other locations. All people enrolling on a quit programme will receive 1-2-1 support from a non-judgemental and supportive advisor and will ultimately work together closely to achieve success.
The client and advisor will set a quit date and decide on the best possible medication and will also offer behaviour support including sound coping strategies to avoid relapsing and how to cope with cravings, for example.
Clients can take advantage of weekly sessions of up to 30 minutes for a minimum of five sessions. The client can also receive prescriptions for stop smoking medication for up to twelve weeks. People are up to four times more likely to quit this way.
