Maybe try getting yourself on a "lazy" schedule where you commit to certain goals that may seem scattered and unobtainable but are possible. For example, you want to learn a new craft and eat better. So you practice the craft and start buying better snacks. Evolve from there so that eventually it becomes solidified with time management and you can stick to it. To much all at once or none at all can potentially create feelings of hopelessness
I think you should retrain your brain to associate the gun shot sounds with something else. For example- start bowling and join a group or community that bowls and then enjoys snacks. Eventually you will maybe not forget what happened but have a new better association with the memory of the trauma. As for your kids trust your parental intuition because if you know you'd give your life for them, then if something is amiss you will be aware and able to do something without question. Let that soothe you when you become anxious and out of alignment and coherence with the fickle nature of life
So incredibly sorry for what you're going through. First I understand the pain although I haven't been shot I have gone through certain things and know the pain and fear that follows. Personally I stay away from most everyone except very close family which is a very small handful of individuals. Also, I try to distract my mind from thinking by always having the TV on or sleeping. Another thing that I forced myself recently to do was therapy. I'm currently finally after decades going to a psychiatrist, I've been taking certain medications and it has helped to a certain extent. I feel talking it out, but really only someone you feel comfortable with can help somewhat. Again also medicines for the anxiety and depression or what have you helps, can help. Also going outside for a walk with your family or even by yourself maybe at times, walking on a trail/nature I feel helps too. Me personally, again, I stay to myself a lot! I've gotten to the point I don't trust most anyone or like anyone, for the most part. But not everyone can do this. But the main thing in my personal opinion is definitely finding someone you can talk to, who will listen and be there for you to try and work through the madness and pain. My heart and thoughts for you. I'm sorry for what you're going through!
