My husband currently receives Attendance Allowance and I receive Carer’s Allowance. He has limited mobility and uses a wheelchair. I’ve been researching to find out if he qualifies for a Motability Car as he is struggling to get in/out of our current car. Can anyone advise me?

As far as I know there is no mobility allowance if you are on attendance allowance, and no motability scheme after pension age either. I'd love to be wrong.
There are plenty of second hand wheelchair accessible vehicles though, so hopefully you can find something to fit your needs and budget.
You might also find that there is a community transport service in your area, that offers hospital transports and other trips at cost.
You are correct in that the mobility component of PIP can be used to obtain a,mobility car. PIP is awarded to those before the age of 65 .. Attendance Allowance is awarded to those over 65
Hi to add.. .and confirmed by Motorbility. If awarded pip before retirement age you keep that now instead of transferring over to attendance allowance and as a result if awarded higher rate mobility element of pip you are able to maintain eligibility for the Motability Scheme
Great information! So anyone diagnosed with PSP (or CBD) prior to pension age should push for PIP and the higher rate mobility element - and not assume that "it's such a short time until retirement that it doesn't matter" - it definitely matters financially. Thanks again.
If you do qualify for the Motability Scheme, we got a Peugeot Rifter from the dealer Allied Mobility. The van was the cheapest option and it is easy to use (with electric winch so no pushing) and easy to drive - same size as a Land Rover Discovery etc... Allied Mobility are based in Coventry I think but that did not matter (we are in Sussex) as they brought a van for us to view and then delivered a second-hand one for us to use a few weeks later - with only 5000 miles on the clock. Very efficient people. Our lives are much easier now I do not have to get Ruth out of her wheelchair....
