My wife was suffering for over 4 years with PSP. During the treatment, brain scan MRI showed that her brain was slightly shrunk. Many of the other patients too had brain disfigurement. It is on this that I would like to comment.
As all know, 60 -65% of the brain is cholesterol. According to the Ayurvedic doctors, the brain has to be continuously fed to keep it well and functional. So cholesterol is a major food for the brain. Allopathy feels that cholesterol levels of 230 and above is the root cause of artery blockage, resulting in stroke and CVD. Instead of lowering the cholesterol level, if we could get the excess cholesterol to the brain, then the body's cholesterol level will come down, and the brain retains its lost cholesterol. Ayurveda has found that coconut oil is the best medium to break the blood brain barrier, and carry nutrition for the brain to the brain. Allopathic doctors may want to look into this aspect seriously and check the veracity.
I will always be available for any further ideas on this, if required.

Thanks @Bhakthan. I have generally gone to a medical specialist for sickness. We found a Canadian in NZ who was specializing in brain disorders. He offered my hubby coconut oil as a trial to see if there was any improvement. Said he was taking it himself so obviously believed in it, although there was not enough time for hubby to show any result. He convinced me that there was something to be learned and I have added it to my diet, although it is generally as cooking oil, and that may be wrong!
My hubby ate a lot of cholesterol in his life! Cheese, meat fat, butter, eggs. And a lot of sugar! Obviously there is something he was missing, or over indulging in, and I can't remember him taking coconut oil until the end.
I will continue to follow the coconut oil trail of research.
Once the damage to the brain is done, its virtually impossible to repair the same. But further deterioration can be avoided. Its for this that I posted my opinion.
I used to give my wife turmeric powder with coconut oil, and Ayurvedic preparations called Ashwagandha arishtam and Brahmi capsules. Maybe it helped, not sure. Continuous tracking might have been necessary, but once the doctors are convinced that this is an irreversible issue, they just let it slide. I don't want others to experience the same, hence the Post! This has to be cracked.
Thanks for the info. It's too late for my husband who passed 5/17/19. I think I might try it for myself though since most of my family eventually dies from some kind of dementia. What can it hurt?
I have heard some people say, virgin coconut oil is very good for the brain activation.Has there been any study on how coconut oil helps in reducing brain degeneration problems? My wife has also been diagnosed with PSP in 2014 through MRI in one of the good private hospitals in Calicut. Other neurophysicians including one in NIMHANS Bangaluru have confirmed by seeing the MRI and symptoms like tendency to fall back. I have tried Ayurveda, usual oil massage, dhara, uzhichil, pizhichil etc but no improvement. Now she is on wheel chair and cannot stand on her feet leave alone walking. All along she has been on Syndopa . She developed some seizures two years back which has been stopped with Levipil
Coconut oil is the medium for transporting brain medicines by breaking the Blood Brain barrier. I used to give thrice daily dose of turmeric powder black pepper powder cinnamon powder along with Ashwagandha arishtam and Brahmi capsule (without the casing) soaked with one tablespoon of coconut oil and finally one spoonful of honey, all at one go. By the time the MRI was taken, the brain had started shrinking. But no further deterioration took place. Yes! She was also on syndopa, waklert, syndopa DR. But I lost her slowly and surely. PSP is such a horrible condition - can't call it disease! I wouldn't want even my worst enemy to be struck by it. And we never ever get to know when it strikes. Finally I watched helplessly as she was in a coma like condition, before leaving me forever!
