Hi I'm looking for some advice. My mum has CBD diagnosed almost 3 years ago

She has poor mobility and has been told she cant walk without supervision. Last night my brother found her sleep walking round her flat. He managed to get her back into bed but when she woke this morning her mouth was bleeding. Shes just woken up from her nap and they're bleeding again and my brother said the top ones look like they've moved. Does anyone know wot I should do?

Hi Bobbiejo21

Welcome to the forum. I'm sorry top hear about your Mum.

Dentistry early on is very important with CBD. Later on your Mum might not be able to open her mouth much and dentistry then becomes impossible.

I assume by 'top ones' you mean your Mum's upper teeth.

If si I would so recommend the she sees a dentist and that he also does any other work that might need doing in the next couple of years.

It sounds like she had a fall?

Best to you

Kevin

Thank you for replying so quickly. Yes it's her upper teeth the front ones. Yes I was thinking maybe she walked into something whilst sleep walking or it's a side effect from her medication. I've been googling explanations for ages. As its bank holiday I can't get any one to come see her. Shes just moved into extra care housing so I don't know if they have dentists who do home visits. I will speak to them tomorrow.

I would have never presumed she would sleep walk considering her mobility is very limited. I dread what will happen when my brother goes home and shes by herself

No problem.

I know what a nightmare things like this are.

I have never come across sleep walking as a symptom / behaviour associated with CBD.

However I have frequently heard of folk having a go at walking when they think they are not being watched.

Impulsive behaviour which does not recognise risks are quite frequent. I once left the room to hear a great crash and my wife was on the floor half way across the room. I asked her about it and she said she was sure it was a mistake and she must be able to walk. She hadn't been able to walk for months.

I wish you well

Kevin

Hi. Sound as if she may have fallen. Does she find it difficult to get up from a low chair? My husband had CBD but he has now died sadly. However my friend whose husbnad has PSP falls out of bed. There is a mattress on the floor next to the bed but he sometimes rolls as he falls. They saw the neurologist on Friday and he says that there are some low hospital beds so that if John fell out he would not fall very far and as he cannot raise himself he would be safe on the mattress. I do not know if that would help at all. You should certainly take her to a dentist. Good luck. AliBee

Welcome to the forum. This sounds quite typical of CBD sadly. My husband used to fallregularly because his brain stopped managing his balance and his setting off and stopping mechanism although he still thought he could walk normally. It is very difficult to prevent falls. He had a nasty fall when he was in respite care (down their spiral staircase) and knocked out a tooth. I had to collect him and take him to the dentist.

Kevin’s advice is really good. Try to get her teeth sorted now. Once my husband could no longer walk I used our local authority domiciliary service run by our local health authority and they came to the house. Most authorities have one. Now he can’t open his mouth so no dentistry I am afraid.

Wishing you all the best with your Mum. Tough times. X

Hello. Sorry that you and your family have to deal with these devastating conditions, but this is a good place for support and counsel. I'd affirm what has been said -- falls and dental issues do come to mind. Important to get your treatment team involved, so I hope you feel comfortable asking them for help.
