One on one time is the way to go! We’ve had family coming over to visit for years — but with Moms current health - one on one visits rock!
This is mom spending a couple of hours with one of her granddaughters; Kaleigh brought lunch and they watched a movie together (new release called “Breakthrough”) — making memories laced with joy!

Today I was reading that Toni Morrison's son died of pancreatic cancer at the age of 45 in 2010. Thereafter, Morrison wore a heart pin daily. Apparently, on the OPRAH show she was asked "about his death and how she might find 'closure', she rejected the idea as 'some kind of insult'. I DO RELATE.

I live in Granada Hills which is about 30 minutes from Burbank. My dad retired from Warner Bros which was located in Burbank (still may be for all I know) .
Our show is at the Marriott Burbank - so very close to Warner Brothers - we are there December 11-15 - I hope our schedules can intersect for a moment. Would love to sit and enjoy a meal! Blessings to you.

She looks beautiful - as we all know pictures can be quite deceiving. It’s been a rough week, honestly. Mom is experiencing a lot of pain in her right foot (toes) - so... she’s been restless. I am sleeping with her now, only because I am not going to let her fall again. #itswhatwedo
She is fortunate to have such a devoted daughter. I expect you were fortunate to have such a lovely mother !

So right, Kim, pictures can be so deceiving and cannot depict the challenges that lay behind that happy scene. Of course, the folk on here will totally get it - I suspect that we all have a happy smiling photo of our loved one taken on a day after the unremitting challenges of perhaps the night before. I have a beautiful photo of Rod taken at a wedding where he looks so handsome and so well but I well remember a challenge behind that photo that made me question my ability to continue caring for him, but like we all do I took the millionth deep breath and got on with it.
Your mum is obviously so very, very loved by you all and her joy and appreciation of that love just radiates from her. The gift of unconditional love is priceless. Don't forget also, that regardless of what has gone on behind the scenes, your pictorial of caring for your mum will be inspirational for many, especially those just embarking on this journey or indeed who have been trundling along for some time. Your story in pictures shows that the diagnosis does not have to take away the joys still to be had and life can still be full and worth living, and even when things appear to become hopeless, including our loved ones in as much as possible brings so much to their lives. Well done to you and yours.

So very true - the behind scenes of every photo ... well we all know. Interesting situation yesterday - my brother comes by, and Mom is dressed in a new outfit (which I managed a two hour get away to do a little shopping) - her hair looked beautiful, her pedicure looked beautiful, and she had a little make up on (I have learned to apply - make up artistry ha! That’s funny if you knew that I barely wear make up) .... all that to say, everything is in place, she looks marvelous, and he says ... I don’t understand why you think Moms health is declining ... she looks amazing. >>> I could just literally fall over in disbelief. Those visits, as he sits comfortably in the living room on a comfy couch with a cup of coffee and conversation with everyone (as she sits quietly listening to everyone talk) and I sit and try to bring the conversation around to include her .... clueless! - oh.... I could just go on on . . . You know the rest of the story.
Yes, Kim, all too familiar a story. The number of times friends in particular said that to me about Rod. Hey ho - that's life and to be honest a testimony to our care that our loved ones always look their best. Have a good day. I'm just off to the farm with my little granddaughter which will be exhausting but fun.

Hi Bazooka, one thing we all know is, pictures don't tell the story! As Hils has said, to get a smiling photo, takes a lot of effort. Full make up to cover up yesterday's fall, clean shirt and trousers, for various reasons, only to have to be changed two seconds before the camera is clicked. Then there is the camera shake, because you are so tired and can't hold it long enough for them to actually smile.
So yes, we all understand and take our hats off to you for your patience and love.

Hi Kim, I’m fine thank you. I love reading your posts and they always bring back memories when you describe how your mum is. She is so blessed to have such a devoted daughter. It’s so nice to see her so happy with her granddaughter.
I have an old school friend staying with me at the moment who was also my bridesmaid 47 years ago on 5th (I had a little sad moment but not for long). She has always remained in contact with our old PE teacher and she also came to see us today. It’s funny as she always seemed old to us at school but isn’t that much older than us. I still couldn’t call her by her first name, to me she is still a teacher. I felt like a school girl again 😆. It’s good having Karen here though, talking of our school days. What a lot has happened since then. Where have the years gone? Life is so short isn’t it but for me now, at this moment, it is good.
Carry on making those happy memories, they are so good to look back on.
