Pivot Disc? Yes or No ππ»ππ»
Hi
For me, totally not.
People with PSP and CBD have balance issues so adding a handle does two things. First the person has something to hold on to which gives them some sense of balance orientation and second they can do some of the work.
With this disc you would definitely need a handling belt so that a carer has some control.
healthandcare.co.uk/patient... Even then I think further down the line you could be in unsafe waters.
We used one of these for many years. They're very good.
Here is a video of the Etac

Notice how light the Etac is? You need something with a bit of weight in the bottom. The weight gives much better stability. I would not go for an Etac!
Here is what we used.

Notice the yellow pull out bar on the floor. That has saved us from a number of falls when things started to get out of hand. The base is heavy I found it quit a lot to lift. However it has little wheels and is easily wheeled from room to room.
Hope this helps.

Yes definitely.
I have used one with my mum.
Good for getting into the car and using the loo.
There is also a soft cushion one that you can get to sit on. Good for helping to swing legs into car or on to bed.
I actually use the soft one indoors for mum to stand on too as she only wears slipper socks and it doesn't turn too fast.

I'm with Kevin, it doesn't give enough support for those wobbly moments. You may find it is OKish for now but unlikely to be so in the future. Mum has a "Return Stand Aid" (completecareshop.co.uk/movi... , which has almost like a ladder like support handle, so she can "climb" up it and is used with a harness for extra stability, so even if she wobbles & lets go, she can't fall. It may be a bit overkill for now but will last you as her mobility decreases.
We are very lucky in the UK in that the OT provide this sort of equipment.
I'm with the others, NO! I tried one in the car, to swivel Steve around when sitting. It was useless and very uncomfortable to sit on. The thought of having him stand on it, fills me with horror!
You need something like a Steady Sarah, basically it's like a sack truck that your Mum will pull herself up, you move her around, then she can sit wherever you need her to. Talk to your OT.
Lots of love

Ask your occupational therapist to show you the way to overcome this problem. For us, a gait belt and a proper technique shown by the occupational therapist help us very much.
When your mother is seated and need to turn (like in a car), we found that using a plastic bag, did the trick. The person is seated on a plastic bag. It makes it very easy to turn the legs in or out of the car.
All the best.
