All day at home caring. Afternoon catheter problems, sediment in the tube and then blocked. Called District Nurses who changed catheter and then reported that urine was coming from the vagina. They phoned GP who then phoned me to say he would have to consult the urologist. Theresa May resigned as PM.

Thanksxxx. Nice quiet day so far, catheter flowing well and very little sediment. Won't get a response from Urologist until Monday. Googled Urology this morning and learned quite a lot.
On the recommendation of my husband's urologist, my husband takes 1/2 tsp.of d-mannose (NOT China-sourced), 1 gram of Vitamin C and 1 gram 2x/day methenamine hippurate daily. This is to prevent the bacteria from growing in the urine. That and flushing the catheter 2-3 times a week. Seems to have helped a lot.
Thank you Christine that is very useful information. Doreen is fed by ng tube and I think the sediment is built up in the feed. We have water flushes once an hour which have greatly reduced the build up of sediment. I will mention your notes when we get the urologist on board.
My husband is also fed through a PEG tube. I flush it prior to feeding him as well as after with clear water. That is addition to water to keep him hydrated. So far I have been very careful with what I send through the tube. I use only an organic liquid designed for tube feeding. bone broth, liquid supplements. I have not tried to make anything myself since I don't think I could get it fine enough We are new to this, though. Only since the beginning of March. So much to learn here with minimal guidance. Best to you too!
We are on Jevity 1.5cal feed supplemented with boiled water for hydration. She has been on this feed since 2016 we were initially on 2cal it was changed to 1.5 cal following similar problems. I think I may need to speak to the dietician as well as the urologist. Are you in the U.K.? because here the feeds are supplied by the NHS prescribed by a dietician.
The nutritionist here prescribed the formula ((Kate Farms Peptide 1.5) my husband is taking. Insurance denied it. I appealed and was able to get it approved. I don't know what might be available in the UK. In good conscience, I would not give my husband Jevity for a variety of reasons. I feel that it may offer calories, but not nutrition. It disregards the gut-brain connection, the health of the gut microbiome, the role of fruits and vegetables, no milk for PD patients, the importance of blood sugar, etc. etc. The one thing is Jevity is inexpensive (a.k.a. cheap). Here are two things you might share with your nutritionist.
Unhealthy gut, unhealthy brain: The role of the intestinal microbiota in neurodegenerative diseases. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/301...
Wise advice to a normal healthy person. We have other issues. My wife is approaching 80 she was diagnosed with celiac disease in her 30's and has been on a gluten free diet ever since. Physically she is still very strong. We went on walking holidays together average 12 miles a day up to her diagnosis of CBD in 2013. The nutritionist in choice of feed will have to take all this into consideration. We have always had plenty of vegetables in our diet. My wife one year presented 13 different vegetables on our Christmas dinner table.π
