I am so annoyed Jim not too good so got the paramedics out and he phoned the out of hours doctor who then refused to come out and just said send him to hospital. I am so cross that he could not even bother to come and make sure what the reason was. The test were all oK that the paramedics did so not really a need to be hospitalized. It's more like the antibiotics he is taking does not suit him.
Sorry don't mean to go on but I am furious.xx

Sorry to hear that Jim is not well. I don't think any professional knows or cares about PSP. It's not fashionable and they don't get extra money to deal with it!!! I'm not the sort of person that wishes evil things on people, but doctors would be very high on my list!
I'm not surprised you are annoyed. I think you may have just been unlucky and a very lazy out of hours doctor was on duty, I hope that is what it was and you receive a better response if needed again ( and I hope it won't be needed).
Our experiences have been different where we live in Kent. I have had to call paramedics on several occasions and they have done all they can to keep Colin out of hospital. The last time, at the beginning of the summer, he badly cut his head when he landed during a fall. The ambulance men said they didn't want him hanging about for hours in hospital but they weren't qualified to decide whether to stitch, glue or leave the cut. They phoned someone and it was decided to let him stay at home but they would send a paramedic. He had 8 stitches put in at 12.15 am and slept right through it. He fell at 7pm. I was tired and fed up by the time she arrived but we had put Colin to bed and he was in a far better place than the A&E. He doesn't see the GP much but I did ask him to call in September as we were going away and I thought Colin was getting a chest infection. He arrived a couple of hours later and gave us a prescription to take with us as it wasn't a chest infection but didn't want me to worry if it turned into one. He said if he is still coughing in two days, put him on the antibiotics.
I hope Jim is feeling better now and that you don't have a reason to call the out of hours doctor again.
Best wishes,
Nanna B
It does not surprise me either. We have no good experiences with GP's, nor the A&E department at the hospital. It has nothing to do with PSP or other illnesses, it is just the sign of the times we live in. My wife had to be hospitalised three times with head wounds as a result of falls. It took 6 hours before she was seen in the A&E department of the hospital. The GP surgery did not want to touch her, because they said head wounds need to be checked out by a specialist. The first time, because we went first to out GP we wasted almost 2 hours before we finally arrived at the A&E department at the hospital, and then it took another 6 (!!) hours before she was seen and treated. So in total it took us 8 hours. You can imagine what might have happened in the meantime if the head would had been serious.
And we never have had any interest shown by our GP in the condition of my wife. That tells you all. Our experience with GP surgeries in the past and now is like chalk and cheese. In the past they knew you, they showed an interest and at least would want to see you once a year for a general check up. All gone.
Well what ever was troubling Jim now seems to have passed. I am glad I stuck to my guns and said no to the hospital. Our own doctor has been and she understands the illness and has altered his medication. I wish all were like her but unfortunately she not on call 24/7. She was also not happy at the way we were treated especially as Jim is bed bound at the moment. There is not a lot you can do when you call them out you get what you are given and if they don't understand the stock answer is hospital.
You deserve to be upset. Sometimes the medical professionals can be frustrating and it seems they just don't care. Thankfully much of the time we don't need them and trudge on by ourselves. Hang in there and have a better day today. Don't let those people steal your joy. Jimbo
Am glad jim is on the mend. Its so frustrating when you don't get the help you need. Brian at the moment is really struggling think it could be the fact that he never had chance to recover from the last infection before he came down with this one.
As promised our community matron came out today with Brians social worker and they are getting in permanent carer's so all we have got to do is sort out how and if we have got to pay for the service. Take care Janexx
We had a call from social services today telling me what a package of care would cost it was like a second mortgage as we don't qualify for benefits. Good luck hope you manage to get them to help you with payment. I have gone for private carer and myself for now. Good luck. Hope he improves soon. Have a large glass of wine I did. Denise xx
We have just had the quote for Brians care package £271 per week. We are having the finance officer out next week to see if we have got to pay for some or all of it. So they will be going thru all our in coming and out goings. I do hope that we can get some help otherwise in six weeks time we wont be able to have them because all our money will be gone. Thats of course if we dont eat or pay the council tax or the utilities lol. Janexx
Think we will get help because at the moment we have got approx £3,000 and that was put aside to have our window done. Do they take the value of the property into account. Janexx
No they shouldn't only when it comes to putting them in a home they might but it's not usual because they want to keep the person at Home as its cheaper. Hope all goes well for you both. Denise xx
In England if you have less than £14,000 then carers at home should be free if arranged by social services. Between £14,000 and £23,000 the you pay towards cost but not all. If you have over £23,000 then you pay the lot. The value of your house is not looked at for care at home. Just dealt with 2 different councils and they stick to these rules. Hope it works out for you.
Sorry, forgot to mention they do need to know income and outgoings too. Don't forget to mention all the extra costs - heating, extra washing etc. I found the people doing the. Form very helpful in explaining things. Good luck
Thank you for letting me know as I am totally financially dependant on my other half and if his money is taken for his care needs that would leave me haveing to look for work. And the only qualifications I've got is nvq care. So it would seem crackers me going out caring for others just to pay for someone to come in and care for him. Janex
Sorry to be personal, but can you let me know the outcome. Going through the same with my mother at the moment, so would be great to know what's what! Thankfully, not at that stage for S yet!
I'm very sorry for your troubles and glad to read that things improved afterward, but have to say there's no way we could ever get a doctor to come to us. That just doesn't happen here in the US.
Dear Eurohop It is really frustrating and annoying when you meet these kind of doctors, I encountered them too and what's worse was that most of the hospitals refused to hospitalize my father when we needed. It's good to hear he is better now.
