Hello all,

I hope everyone is doing as well as possible.

Dads completely immobile now and lost so much weight. Choking, crying all the time. It’s horrendous.

His eyes hurt him everyday, we bathe them but it doesn’t seem to be helping, any advice would be so appreciated

Love and prayers to you all

Xxxx

Eye ointment at night. It’s mostly petroleum jelly with a little mineral oil in it. Then an eye gel in the morning. Both over the counter. Hot compresses on the eyes for 5 minutes when putting the ointment and gel in. Can be done more than twice a day.

People with PSP don’t keep their eyes fully closed when sleeping the corneas dry out on the bottom causing irritation and lots of tearing.

Jeff166 gave you good advice. It seems counterintuitive but dry eyes can cause excessive tearing.

My son use to like me to put a wringed-out washcloth on his eyes. I also used the Refresh Tears on him throughout out the day. He DID love the washcloth.

Mum uses Hyloforte drops 4 - 5 times a day, Clinitas Eye Gel morning & tea time and Xailin eye ointment at night. We also use an eye bag daily (Optase moist heat mask, can get in Boots in UK for £10.99) followed by bathing eyes with Blephasol solution, which the eye hospital recommended, that really helps with keeping blepharitis under control. It was also advised that wrap around glasses were good as they help keep the humidity in and so stop the eye being dried out by air currents. It's by no means a perfect routine but Mum's eye lids are less inflamed and her eye lashes have grown back. We are off to the eye hospital today for a check up as there is a concern that the corneas could become ulcerated as Mum just doesn't blink at all now.

We soak coriander leaves in a cup of water at night and wash the eyes with the water. Repeat at night and noon every day. After 3 days the pain and dryness goes.

Mom had PSP & used Refresh Tears as do l. I find the drops very comforting & use them at least twice a day. Mom often complained of sunlight so we kept the curtains closed. A damp warm or cool wash cloth also brought some relief. Sending Hugs... Granni B

So very sorry to hear of his suffering - and yours. I hope it will ease for him as he gets closer to the end. 💔 Such hard times for you. Hang in there. XXX
