Hi to all , This morning at 3.3.am i woke up to hear unusual noises from Kathy, i sleep next to her in single bed ,i got up to find her face down in her pillow,i rolled her over to find her pale looking and unresponsive her two arms were clenched against her chest ,i gave her mouth to mouth resuscitation ,it was only about 3 breaths , all of sudden she breath deeply, the ambulance people came in and she opened her eyes, about 3 hours later she regained her movement. She will stay in hospital overnight, she sleeps in a hospital bed,so i will have to adjust the bed to prevent her turning over,my question is did she have a seizure, why didn't she use her arm's to push, did she want to do it? What stopping it happening again,we going to end of life legal papers drawn up so Kathy wishes will be there, this psp journey has been a life changing experience for me ,i will remain strong for Kathy till the end. God give me strength to carry on. Bless you all ,Peter and Kathy

Kathy almost passed away
Oh my gosh how very scary for you and for Kathy! I’m so sorry this happened but oh how fortunate that you were able to revive her!
I cannot answer your questions but I am going to follow this conversation to learn from others and hopefully someone will be able to answer. Were the doctors able to explain this at all?
Sending hugs from I SewBears
How awful. Sorry never heard of this before, so can't help, accept to send you a big hug and much love.
Lots of love
Anne
Dad could barely move once he got in bed. He slept every night on his back, all his movement was just sliding down in the bed.
My first thought is does your wife have enough strength in her arms to move herself? Since she is in a hospital bed try raising the head more, it's very difficult to get onto your stomach in an inclined position. Getting end of life wishes on paper is good idea, that way there is no second guessing what should or should not be done.
Ron
Oh my goodness what quick thinking on your part.
I can't answer your question either but agree with Ron to raise the bed a little at the head end.
If my mum rolled over she wouldn't be able to get herself back she would just suffocate fortunately she only lies on one side and doesn't tend to move all night but I have noticed every morning that both hands are clenched above her chest.
Thank you for sharing this with us Peter
Very scary for you and Kathy
Hope she is home soon.
Sending love and hugs

That is so scary, Peter! Thank goodness you heard Kathy! So glad you were able to help her, and that she is in hospital overnight. Guess you will be by her side. I hope there is no follow-on effect.
Kathy, so glad you survived this! Hope your stay in hospital is uneventful and caring. It is not my favourite place - regular checks and frequent 'noises off'. I hope you recover soon and get home again.
Peter, I guess if you ask the medical staff they may be able to determine if there was an 'event' that put Kathy on her face. They presumably took blood on her arrival. That may show something if they look!
Have they checked if there has been any deterioration in back muscle control that has caused Kathy to slip into the face down position? Hope thay can give some good advice to stop this happening again.
Wiuld a change of pillow help? Is there a pillow that gives good support, yet at the same time is less restrictive to breathing if a person is face down? You have been very resourceful in the past in sourcing useful stuff from the Internet.
I know there are bed rolls available to stop babies turning onto their tummy. Could something similar help Kathy not to slip onto her tummy from her side?
Will be thinking especially of you both. I often wonder how you are both getting on.
A big hug to you both!

Dear Peter and Kathy
What a scary episode-quick thinking on your behalf though.
It is good to have wishes recorded the Hospice or GP can help with this.
Sending you both lots of love
Tippy
Dear Peter, I can so understand the panic - and confusion! How frightening for you both 😧 Damn these diseases that rob our beloveds of their ability to communicate! It's adding insult to injury Big Time.
Hugs & strength to you.

Hi Peter
I don't know.
It sounds like a traumatic experience on to top of all of the others.
Just wishing you both the best.
Warmly
Kevin
Thinking of you and sending hugs xx
Sorry to hear you had such an awful experience.
Mum has the head of her bed raised a little and then a knee bend to stop her sliding down the bed, as she can't turn but she can wriggle !
Hope she's home soon.
I too slept in a twin bed next to Charles’ hospital bed. He had a seizure standing up two weeks before he passed. I believe she did have one. Stay close and hold her tight.
I have no doubt you will continue to be there for her. Praying for you both.

I feel so terrible for you to have to live through that experience. I have always said that if I get PSP I will sign the end of life papers right away
I will pray for you both and am sending love your way❤️
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have learned a lot. All the best for you both. Hugs

Peter glad you knew what to do. It must have been such a shock. I suspect Kathy may have had a seizure. I doubt she did it deliberately. So glad you realised there was something wrong.
Hugs to you both.
