Coughing and mucus build up remedy!!!!

Hi all,

I just thought I’d share an amazing patch that helped T with mucus build up in his throat due to swallowing problems.

It’s called SCOPODERM (Hyacinth) patches, it was prescribed by the Hospice Nurse.

In the box it says that it’s for nausea and dizziness BUT they have discovered that it works to alleviate or stop mucus build up.

T had it for 6 days now and it worked wonders. No more gurgling sound and choking on food (even puréed) due to mucus build up.

Hope this helps anyone having this problem.

Mx

Yes. They are wonderful far safer than suction machines and other drugs. If you search hyoscine or scopoderm patches on this site you will see we are not alone in appreciating their efficiency. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Meg, the patches were brilliant for Colin for a while but he did become allergic to them and blisters formed under the patches. I stuck them in different positions to help the skin but he had to come off them and got a suction machine. I hope T doesn’t have a problem. They are used for motion sickness and to dry fluids during operations.

I’m away soon but will be in touch and hope to see you on my return in April.

Take care.

Hello! I’ve been an RN for decades and possibly these are related to Scopolomine

an old pre operative med to “dry up” fluids in patients just before undergoing surgery?

Just a guess!!!!!!

My husband has moderate PSP is quite symptomatic and I’m trying to cope with disease as well as I can.

Um so very impressed with people on this forum so caring and compassionate!

We need more people like us in our world today!

Warm hugs to you all 😍

Indeed Kevin. After months of long battles with GPs for a cough remedy it took a Hospice Nurse to solve it!

Thank God for angels 😇

Wanted this very badly sometime back! Then I tried a native remedy of cumin seed, black pepper powder and tea leaves tea and the mucus build-up vanished!

Hi Bhakthan,

Please, can you share the recipe for this concoction and how it’s administered? Thanks in advance!

Bhakthan profile image
Bhakthan in reply toSewBears

Am from India, so we depend mostly on herbs.

1 teaspoon cumin seed

2 teaspoons black pepper

1/2 teaspoon turmeric

All the above powdered.

1 inch ginger

2 glasses water.

Put the powders and ginger into the water and boil for 15 minutes.

For tempering the taste can add either 1/2 spoon coffee powder or tea leaves. Add sugar candy to taste.

Have 3 tablespoons of this concoction after meals and before going to sleep at night. Do this for three days.

It may be noted that mucus trickles into the throat while asleep. The concoction eases the throat and prevents mucus collection.

This should be good enough for at least one month.

Do please let me know the results.

Thank you. This is a good thing for me to try with a minimal issue.

Hi Bhakthan,

Thank you for the recipe. I think I have everything in the cupboard already. Lovely! Does it make a difference if the ginger is in powdered form, which I have on hand, or must it be fresh? This will be an interesting experiment if hubby will try it. He has CBD and coughing up phlegm is an on again off again issue. It also sounds like the recipe might be worth trying in the event of a sore throat, yes/no?. I’m probably going to venture to the store for fresh ginger today since the recipe calls for 1 inch, I imagine fresh is best. I’ll let you know the results. Thank you for this!

In India there's every chance of the ginger powder being adulterated, and of course I prefer fresh ginger root. When taking the recipe the first time, it will be advisable to add plenty of candy, as it will be very spicy. But you will experience the clarity in the throat after two or three intakes. All the best! Would appreciate a feedback - either bouquets or brickbats! Worked for my wife!

Thank you so much. Do you mean 3 Tablespoons with each meal or 1 Tablespoon 3 times a day? Thanks.

3 tablespoons after the meal. Hot - upto tolerable for intake. Thanks

Thank you very much. I am thinking of sweetening the

mixture with honey, hope my husband will be able to tolerate it.

Don't know about honey, but our ancestors held that honey could also cause build-up of mucus! I don't subscribe to that view. You can always try the easy way out!

Thank you. My husband is just beginning to have minimal coughing. I think he would bevOK, if he could just get up a hearty cough to clear his throat, but he cannot.

Hi! That’s exactly what was happening to my B. He can’t cough it out or expectorate, thus he was gagging and choking on his mucus in his throat.

Thank God for this miracle patch, mucus has cleared up and he is swallowing better.

I live in India and this (Scopoderm patch) is not availale in the country. I woul be grateful iy to know where it can be ourchased online as I can organise shipment to India. I would be happy to have guidance on administration of the patch if possible.

Hi Dethiraj

Here’s a UK website I found that sells SCOPODERM patches.

doctorfox.co.uk/travel-sick...

It’s easy to administer, you just need to stick the patch behind the ear and change it every 3 days, or as needed.

Best of luck,

Mx
