I guess you all are aware of attendance allowance and blue badge entitlement ,but you may not know that p.s.p. suffers can get a reduction on council tax.Pick up a form from your council office, don't take too much notice of the wording, fill it in and get your G.P.to fill in as well and return to the council. We done this and our claim was accepted and even back dated to when she was first diagnosed.

Good luck,Acorneater.

We had this reduction but I thought it was only valid if you had home adaptions e.g. Wetroom. Xxx

The claim is for "mental impairment" rather than disability and like Acorneater it was backdated. The Dr didn't even charge for filling in the form !!!

I think the Council Tax reduction only works if there are only two of you at home. I still have two adult children hanging around (I love them really!).

I am going to try to get DVLA to exempt the family car from vehicle tax (£250 pa) as it is used primarily for my disabled wife. Not sure how easy it is to achieve.

What about a motorbility car?

Yes, when I was caring for David, I moved him in with me. As a result I lost my single persons discount, but the council immediately informed me that I could get a carers allowance of the same 25% if I filled in a one age form. It was really easy to do.

The logic is that why should I lose out for caring for someone when the act of caring saves a place in a home and lots of expense tothe council.

It’s one of the few properly joined up pieces of logic from the authorities, it’s a win win for both sides, and something that We were very grateful for, as it helped David to continue to live at home right through.
