Carers allowance

Hi

Just a reminder to all you lovely people in the UK to use the carers allowance provision if in receipt of full attendance allowance.

If you are under pensionable age and earning less than £100 a week you can claim, very easy to claim on line.

They also do not publicise very well that they do not count occupational pensions in this.

This has been very handy for me as I will not get my old age pension till I am 66 , so has filled a gap. You can allocate it to anyone of your choosing as long as they fit the criteria, useful if you want some extra hours covered.

I keep plugging the SMI payment for reduction in council tax, ring your council, again very easy to claim.

Have a good one

Julie

Does anyone know if we can get that in the US?

Too late for me unles of course it's retroactive.....

But there's caregivers out there in the US who sure could benefit from some the UK has!

I actually think there is something like that in the US, but not sure of details. I kept working so didn't follow up.

Yes I did not follow up on such a thing either tho somebody said a long time ago that there was.....No agency has presented themselves.... I'm still just looking for a job.... :)

Hi, Also if you've had a carer's assessment, your County Council should run a sitting service, enabling you to have 20 hours over 3 months to have a sitter come in & sit with your relative. I found this very helpful.

Hi

SMI payment stands for severe mental impairment , this gives you a reduction in council tax due to the cognition problems with PSP . Your local council will send you the very short form, psp is not listed but you can add it on the end all it requires is a signature from your GP. This is a completely different payment to the one you receive for structural changes, we got that one when we had the bathroom enlarged and a wet room put in, best of luck

Julie,

Thanks - that is really helpful. Had heard of the Carers Allowance but done nothing about it. And did not know about the Council Tax reductions.
