I encourage my Mom to read out loud. She really loves it, so we work on volume, enunciation and slowing down - she tends to read really fast!
Today was a full book of classic Mother Goose rhymes .... a tisket a taskit ... Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall .... hey diddle diddle ... hickory dickory dock! Every time she reads one, she smiles and says, “I remember that one!”

It’s so good to do things together and hopefully your mum reading aloud will keep her talking for longer. One thing I wish I had done was record my husband speaking. Even when he was still alive I longed to hear his voice again but couldn’t. Somewhere I have him on tape but unfortunately the dozens of tapes we have aren’t labelled. One day I hope I will get a tape recorder and go through them. Maybe when I have seen all the poorly labelled videos. Keep up the brilliant work.
Your comment reminded that over the Christmas Holidays, I was reading to my grandsons. They would pick out the books to read. One grandson found a book that my wife and I had given to the oldest where we recorded reading the book. This was before the cruel disease took her voice. As you turn the pages, you could hear us reading the pages. It brought me joy to hear her lovely voice. My daughter, who happens to come in as we listened, and I kept wiping away tears as we listened to the book. I am so glad that they have that special book to remember her by.
Another thing that my wife and I did at the suggestion of a voice therapist was to sing along with music videos on YouTube. My wife enjoyed that and would be one of the few things that got her to use her voice loudly.
