Need some advice from your wealth of knowledge and experiences on uti and holding urine.hubby was caterhrized at 4:00 am and they got 600 ml of urine ,they gave him one dose of antibiotics and a prescription. Now 3:00 pm and he still not able to pass urine .my thinking is if no urine by the 12 hour markers I should take him back to the hospital emergency.
How is his liquid intake? If it's normal and he is in no pain personally I would wait. By the 24 hour mark a doctor consult is a good idea. If a UTI is present it'll take the meds at least 24 hours to start doing anything. All that said, you should do what you feel most comfortable with.
Nothing like a deadline, he pee just enough to color the toilet water.I think I will til tomorrow and see what happens

Forgot to mention, when he had all the test ,blood, xray, the doc says he was all good and that he could go home, that's when I said what about a UTI and he said we will check on that,I told earlier that he was holding his urine, have to stay on top of these things or it would of gone undetected.
I know that we have gone through the before but it seems it is becoming more and more of a issue. 9:30 got him up from his chair for bed and I not complaining,he was soaking wet.it's a vicious cycle.maybe get some sleep tonight, so very tired.
In the early days of my wife having a catheter whenever we had such problems the only answer I got from the district nurses was 'push fluids' which really annoid me. Now I've learned my lesson and give 60ml an hour on top of the fluids in the feed and are free of UTI's. As for your question I would get professional help whether it be doctor or nurse and best at home rather than hospital emergency. When we have had UTI's they have soon been cleared up with antibiotics. If you have a blockage this can be cleared with a bladder wash or a change of catheter.
The prescription for hubby's UTI is Monurol, one pack of powder mixed with 1/2 cup of water and that's it total of 1 a week for 3 weeks.must be strong stuff.
I had a problem with passing urine for about 6 months and was eventually prescribed Tamsulosin Hydrochloride 400 micrograms which I take once a day and it has worked.
