Yes. It will likely get worse. So - First up: Convenes if you can make them work. (I couldn't.) Internal catheter, if you can make it work. (I couldn't.) We use 2 layered briefs and a pad, at all times, which is more or less manageable. I pierce the two inner layers several times. The urologist recommended a suprapubic catheter, but since my guy's fiddling is what made the regular catheter especially difficult, I can't see that as a choice.
We tried every medication known, plus a few biofeedback sessions, over a two-year period, before we accepted the situation. Nothing helped at all.
Ok, I get the two briefs and pad but don't understnad the piercing part, why and how do you do it? He won't do catheter either.
I just poke holes with the point of a knife or nail scissors in the underside of the pad and the inner brief, so the urine wicks down through the layers rather than flowing out the side. I forget who on this site gave that bit of advice to me, but it has made all the difference! He generally only goes through one change of clothes at night now, and usually near dawn, so I get much more sleep than I used to!
I think it was NannaB....with the words of wisdom. I see yah we did not have that problem at all...just the opposite isn't that wierd? same disorder ; same though opposite issue?
Wow ec so what do you do now change every 20 minutes?
Nope - generally once quite late in the night, when he is wet through, I change everything, pajamas, bed pad and all. When he gets up I usually need to change all the layers again before dressing him for the day. At noon I check, and he is often still entirely dry, but sometimes I need to whip out the old guard and put in a new one. When I get home from work he needs me to change all three layers, but I don't usually need to change his jeans. Then I change it all before he goes to bed. The bowel incontinence is getting worse, so that is upsetting my lovely routine, but I am coping. So far.
My husband uses convenes and they really saved our sanity! Hard to get right 100% but even when it went wrong it seemed to last through the night! So no having to change him and a good night's sleep.

My husband could NOT wet himself at all. stood at the toilet for half an hour and litterally trinkles....Finally went to urologist. said many things....that Bruces urology is is in response to his neurology...so yes whatever\ whatever your husbands pee is doing its because of his PSP...unless of course there's something more immediate like a UTI. Let me continue. We put a Catheter in the man and his output is more than it has been in years ...thank God he never got a UTI ...and his catheter seems to be healthy too. The doc says when one lays down either the muscle relaxes thus more flow or a sphincter opens ....can't remember butt hat's why they have to go at night.
And because of PSP the bladder muscles cannot be controled anymore....sort of like the eyelids...always staying shut(?) well thats another conversation...
So go to your urologist tell him what your man has got and if he is worth his salt, he will give you a ....remedy...not a cure....but away to be ahead of all that wet stuff...
Good luck

Try a convene, if it works for you, they are great. S had a Catether now. Wouldn't change it for all the tea in China. Complete life saver. Yes, he has had a few infections and blockages, but to me that out weighs the problems we were having.
Lots of love

I put a convene on Chris at night or when we go out [ with a leg bag ].
He does fiddle and take it off in the early morning but I often get to him before he wets the bed. Its made a huge difference. No wet clothing when we are out.
Our nightly kiss now includes " I love you and keep the convene on ! "
Usually the impulse to remove is too great.
I'm dreading the next stage of bowel incontinence. So far only occasionally.
Love, Jean x
Me too, the bowels don't move well at all. We see the urologist on Monday, I think there is blood in his urine but can't truly tell since it's so dark. Sorry for the details, but PSP makes you more open............ugh.
Thanks,

Goodness, yes, the things we talk about!
I'm glad you are going to the urologist; meanwhile, dark urine can also be a sign of inadequate hydration. How is your husband doing with drinking?
So hard for him to drink. It's harder to drink than eat. Water makes him choke so we thicken everything but he can't drink while eating. It's all in the timing isn't it! Gheeze.
Thanks,

I've often thought how nice it would be if we could inject water like I had to do with the sick cat, a nice big syringe full of saline solution under the skin. Made her weirdly lumpy for a bit, but then it just spread itself out!
Cuttercut. My husband is the same. So I have started to give him Smoothies. They are costing me a fortune but well worth it as he can drink without choking.

I'm with you here. So expensive but even tonight he was asking for the yogurt smoothie, he was hungry.

Is he on Sinemet? That makes the urine a very odd colour! Very dark. Our carers thought my husband had a urine infection but I had to explain it was Sinemet. Hope it's something as simple as that.
We have to talk about all manner of things because nobody tells you anything about the things which happen along the way and you find out a lot through other people?
Hope it goes well at the doctor's.

Yes but he's been on it for 4 years. But he doesn't have urinary tract perhaps Kidney. Said he has flank pain. We'll see.
Thanks Marie.

We are in pretty much In the same boat. I have pee bottle on the night stand, he dose use it pretty much every night. Last night at 1:00 am which was a little earlier . I got up and empty it and the the coughing and fiddling started. Oh to get a good night sleep. Also drinking carbonated water help Keep my guy hydrated, they have them in all kinds of flavours .

Yep, I empty urinals all night long. Ha ha.
I'll try carbonated water. Plus he likes these yogurt smoothies. Not enough liquid but he likes them.
