I know a lot of you still manage holidays all be it in this country(UK) do you take out insurance? I've just lost the cost (all be it not a lot) of a weekend away because my mum is seriously ill in hospital (she's not the psp sufferer that's my husband) I just wondered if it's possible to cover these eventualities

Could you not explain to the place you were going, they might be kind hearted and let you go on a different date, some places will let you change the dates. Yvonne xxxxx
Try on-line many companies cover over 60's with many conditions including PSP. We always went for annual cover as covered all trips including weekend or short breaks. Ignore the headline costs, to cover PSP does more than double headline cost but is well worth it. As a couple they will get discount. We have used Staysure, travel4med and saga. Always check cover as some cheap policies do not cover very much.
Best wishes on trying to get your deposit back. Tim
I agree with Yvonne. Try ringing where you were meant to be going. Lots of places are very helpful over situations like this and will let you go on another date! Hope yours will.
I'd paid in full, as I said not mega bucks, mums Illness was not even on going when I paid balance, I've written to park resorts and under there terms and conditions nothing transferable, but they hope I enjoy holidaying with them in the future!!! I had a similar situation last year when dad died, but holiday company very understanding and changed the dates. In view of what the future may hold with psp I wondered if there was some cover, or am I destined to pay for holidays I can't take and loose money xx
Hi Debbie, there are lots of insurance companies that will insure you for travel overseas. We always used Staysure, never had to claim, so I couldnt vouch for them. How you go about insuring for UK holidays, I don't know, but you could start with the above.
I think I would be naming and shaming the company that won't let you change dates. After all, it's what you spend there, that they get their profit from, not what you have paid!
