CHC?

Five weeks in hospital and still they have not finished assessing Bill. I want him home and he is bored. They have decided that he is eligible for an assessment for CHC and they have assigned a nurse to him but it cannot be finished until at least the end of the week. No wonder they are short of beds in the NHS.

It must be awful to be in hospital all that time, for both of you but at least in there they have recognised his needs. It may help with the CHC application. It will be worth the extra time in hospital if it is granted. In the home situation it is often impossible for the professionals to get the true picture especially when our loved ones are on their best behaviour whenever others call but if they have looked after him day and night for 5 weeks, they will have a true picture. It was Colin going into the hospice for 5 nights to give me respite that got the ball rolling for us. I didn't know what CHC was. Originally they took him for 4 nights but after 3 said they didn't know how I coped alone and were keeping him another night. We were granted CHC the first time it was applied for and I was given a night carer for 5 nights within 7 days of the decision being made. I'm sure the hospice staff input helped a lot. Make the most of the next few days, you will need all your energy to care for Bill when he gets home and not having to for all this time, it will probably be hard getting back into a routine.

I hope the CHC application is successful.

Bev , John went into hospital a number of years ago now to have a knee op .

I couldn't fault how good they were with him . I had left notes with them with they followed best they could . they thanked me for explaining his needs .

the second evening I went in with our daughter the male nurse came over to me and called me Wonder Woman . I didn't know what he was in a bout until he said how on earth do you manage . I told him. A lot of love and practice I am use to him .

I had to fight the Physios and Ots to get him released , The nurses and surgeon knew it would be best for him to go home with me and when they eventually let him go home They said we take our hats off to you .

he did recover much quicker albeit it didn't help with his walking but was not in pain .

the only downside was that if Onhad left him in there he would probably have had the CHC done then . so Kath think hard about him coming home too soon

I am still waiting on the CHC . probably would have been don and dusted by now but they are still assessing his mental health . Using Memantine now which does appear to be helping a little the nurse comes every week , it's the best dept we had had dealings with so far but we are now also waiting for a further meeting with the mental consultant along with her nurse and Parkinsons nurse. I just hope all the waiting will be of any help . that's if either of us are still alive by the time it's all over . ,,,,,,,, ,, How much are all these meeting costing
