Day out

I decided to take Brian for a stroll along clacton sea front today. As we were strolling along Brian happy as can be eating his icecream. i thought to myself oh golly gosh this is getting to be hard work so off we popped to the local mobility shop and got an electric motor for the wheelchair. Can't wait for it to be fitted. Janexx

Brian had been on about it for ages but i kept thinking we ok as we are but have now decided that it is wort the money. We paid £565 and that is with them fitting it for me. Janexx

that sounds good to me . I thought about getting one but John doesn't get out at all these days unfortunate . get all the help with aids that you can to make your like easier , that's if you able to afford it .and don't struggle and wait t do so

Sure you will get great benefit not having to struggle pushing, I remember when my granny got her electric wheelchair, it made a huge difference for my grandad and mum when taking her out. Xx

I got one on line - its a Rono ? its fine helps uphill - not too steep and cost about £265 and anyone can fit them . The only thing you need to checkout is how the space under the wheelchair is designed as you need the motor as forward as you can get it so that you don't walk into the back of it .

The one we have orderd has got foward and reverse gear and is opereated by the person at the back. Which is good because we have to reverse down the ramps to get out the house because they are too steep to go down fowards. Janexx

G has a 4 wheeled rolator for outside, only problem is she doesn't want to walk outside apart from when she has an appointment, she's lost lots of weight this year and I'm torn between thinking should we get a wheelchair so we could go out (although this is likely to damage my neck more) or get a buggy (but where word we store it?) on top of this consultant came a couple of weeks ago and has said G's prognosis is not good which adds to the dilemma.

Any suggestions?

Congrats. I do hope it works out. Since my knee, I haven't been able to take B to the grocery....have to push the wheelchair cart....I would not mind an electrified one!

Bear and I got one, a Golden, he's a big guy, 255, 6'4", and it works fine with a joystick that he can negotiate. All the walls and door frames have his learning marks though. Cost was less then $1,000.put together and fit for him. It collapses into 4 manageable pieces when we want to go to a park or zoo.

I don't think Brian would be any good if he had to operate it himself, he cant use right hand/arm left hand has to be thought about and eyesight is bad. Not sure how much damage he would do if he was let loose with the controls. Janexx

I AM VERY UCKY AS I WAS GIVEN A MOTORISED WHEELCHAIR AS I LIVE IN FRANCE AND THEY ARE GIVEN TOPEOPLE WHO NEED THEM -- I HdTO GO TO BE ASSESED AT LIMOGES HOSPITAL FIRST ABD WAS GIVEN A TEST TO SEE IF I COULD DRIVE ONE -- THE ONLY THING WE HAD TO PPAY FOR WAS THE REAR OPERATION CINTROLS 500 EUROS, AND WE ARE VERY PLEADED THAT WE DID AS MY EYESIGHT HAS DETERIORATED SO I CANNOT SEE MY WAY THROUGH DOORWAYS LIKE I DID

I know what you mean! My poor walls and door jams are really suffering,but not as much as my husbands pride. We try to just ignore them, one day they will be addressed.
