I went to see mum the other day and noticed that her eyes have changed, she has a startled look all the time. Is this a progression of this disease?

Eyes
I believe it can be.
My husband has the same look but not all the time. He can't blink so if he wants to keep his eyes open he seems to open them very wide giving the statled look. If nothing is going on he closes them and opening them again can take quite a while.
Hi, my husband had what my daughter called "his scary eyes!" Ages before diagnoises. It was the first thing that the doctors noticed, when we started down the road of finding out what was wrong. Every so often, he goes through a stage of needing eyes drops, artificial tears are good, plus an eye wash. Also, I try and remember to tell him to blink a lot, when they are looking sore.
Lots of love

Bathe eyes with a solution of a gentle soap and baby oil . any dry bits will come away easily , you can also use cold tea bags place on the closed eyes .
they are very good .
I daresay on top of everything the eyes will feel gritty . john gets exactly the same thing although his eyes close a lot . he keeps telling me he has lost the TV picture . He can hear the sound , his head and eye have dropped forward and is looking at his belly not the TV .
it was three years after my husband went to the GO and asked if he might have the start of Parkinsons that the G
Looked hard at him and said "what are u looking at me like that for. " Then the penny dropped and he said you have Parkinsons
The patients blink rate goes down with this disease. They have a wide-eyed look. This can cause others to think the patient is "mentally off" and that they don't understand anything or they are incapable of anything. Sad because that isn't the case for most patients and they ARE able to understand and are somewhat ok mentally. I use to explain to friends "its only a look, she is fine mentally". Jimbo
Eye problems, including the stare came early on. No blinking , so dry, I almost lost my eyeballs. After drops a nd steroids for several weeks, now on restasis. That has worked well for dryness. It does, however, make my nose run. So have added another med for that. Stare and wild eyes still there. Can't read or make out details.
I TOO HAVE THE SCARY LOOK AT TIMES !! BUT WHAT IS WORSE IS THE BLESSED DOUBLE VISION // IT MAKES ME MAKE SO MANY MISTAKES WHEN I AM TYPING AND I HAVE TO SIT SO FAR BACK FROM THE KEY BOARD THAT I GET A DREADFUL BACK ACHE ....
