My sister keeps picking and rubbing her face when she is asleep at night.Night staff are doing hourly checks but she still manages to get these marks on her face.Any advice should we try mitts? One of her hands is balled now and can't get it open.

Had the same problem with Brian one hand balled the other hand picking and gauging. He now wears a palm gaurd on the balled hand and a sock on the mobile hand. It has worked reasonable well but it isn't perfect But it does stop a lot of the scratches. So perhaps some kind of mittens might be helpful. Janexx

Thank you, we tried a splint on her hand but she protested when we tried to open the hand, nursing staff will try mitts. Thanks for your reply.

Botox will relax balled hand. Mom had a stroke years ago and nails started digging in. Splints were painful to take on and off. We were at Neuro one day for something else and she said "we can fix that."

From what I can make out the botox can be uncomfortable and it does have to be repeated. And naturally if its for psp the benifits dont last and with each course the benifits last less time. The palm protector is just a piece of sheepskin that is placed between the fingers and palm strapped on useing velcro. Brian loves his pink sock (odd one of mine) keeps his hand warm. The sock is good because it goes further up the arm and doesn't need to be tied on . Janexx
