Hi Peter Jones, it's been a real pleasure talking to you over this year! You have helped me enormously, through your humour and determination. On behalf of S and myself, I wish you and your wife a very happy Christmas and I hope you can stay upright most of the time in 2015. (S's bruises are starting to moan, he has so many bruises on top of bruises at the moment, they really don't like company do they!!!). May you carry on bringing laughter into this world of ours for many years to come.

Lots of love

Hi Jill, S is fine, just recovered from destroying our shower screen, thankfully, only a couple of scratches plus a big hurt in pride, screen, totally scattered in to tiny pieces, has to sweep my way into the bathroom to save him!!!

In lovely sunny South Africa at the moment, have a couple of friends staying, which is great, having help, plus a really good time!!!

Keep smiling!

Lots of love

Hi yer, Peter Jones old boy, good of you to think of your old pal, Barnacle, and of Mrs Barnacle who was highly amused when I reported to her last night in my thoughts. Unfortunately, Roisin could not be with our son and me in person since she died on 30th October of PSP, peacefully and all that but the fact is we missed her grievously. Roisin - and possibly you, judging by your very healthy appetite and good taste - would have enjoyed the turkey I cooked and Rupert's speciality stuffing - which in the end left no room for anything other than a couple of clementines, and of course a fair amount of red wine. Today, after a long walk around a local lake we will start on the home-made Christmas cake.

I wish you and your lovely Stella and all your family a continuing happy Christmas period; most of all I wish that in 2015 something restorative could be made available for PSP sufferers, with you one of the first to feel the benefit.

Please keep in touch.

Christopher

By the way, Peter, the name Barnacle comes from a small cruising yacht my wife and I co-owned with another couple in the 1980s.

Talking of words, perhaps you and many people know that the word Tootleloo meaning "cherio, see you soon" came to Australia with soldiers returning from France after the First World War. It is said to be an Aussie variant of "A tout à l'heure" which is an expression we use every day here in South West France, meaning "see you later." It sounds plausible.

However, my Oxford dictionary says that Toot is an Australian word for lavatory; and "loo" is an English word for same. So maybe there is more to it. Perhaps a reflection of the extremely primitive loo arrangements in France until well after the Second World War.

Maybe you or Stella can throw some light on this important question!

All the best,

Christopher

A very merry Christmas to you, too, dear Mr. Jones! You have brightened our days so often this past year; I can't tell you how much your humor and stalwart courage help us. Thank you! May we all stay upright through the new year.

We are looking forward to a pleasant holiday with family and friends - and lots of good food and drink, of course. We wish comfort and happiness to everyone in this wonderful community. I'm grateful for all of you.

Love and Peace, Easterncedar
