I'm multi tasking Peter. Cooking at the same time as partying. We stopped for coffee after church today so it made us a bit late but the thickener in hubby's coffee filled the gap. Roast pork( liquidised) ready soon. Shame you and Jill can't join us.

startain with kathleen ferrier when i started school in 1951 (and then any folk songs) and then on to classical music which i have loved all my life including jazz and pop music to the 1960s\\i don't get t
o live concertsnow but still enjoy listening to lots of css
and of course singing
in the choir which i joined when i could no longer sing in the `GANDS society (or do the Mikado with the fans b4 i was dxd with thai PSP +)
9 I have some excellent DVDS of the australian singers who have done a fantastic job of most of the GANDS

It looks as though the party was a great success! What a wonderful idea and such fun. I was not able to go on line but have checked it out today. I was surprised to see you mention Kathleen Ferrier as she is one of my most favourite singers. I have an old record of her singing which I treasure so much that I have put it in a special place to keep it safe and now do not know where I put it! One day it will turn up again! Actually, I had relatives who lived in Castleford. Second cousins I think they would be but I never saw a great deal of them ( two sisters). One was called Phyllis but I cannot bring to mind the name of the other, they died years ago. Their sir name was Holmes. One played the violin very well and the other the piano. The one who played the piano (Phyllis I think) used to accompany Kathleen Ferrier when she sang at local venues, I suppose that would be early in her carrier. When I visited, one time, I saw some of the old programs that Phyllis had kept with their names on. I was dying to ask if she would leave them to me when she died, but I never did. I sometimes wonder what happened to them. There has been nobody yet to match Kathleen Ferriers wonderful dark, deep, rich voice, I think. What a shame she died so young but she had a wonderful sense of humour and led a rich and full life even if it was short.

Dear Jill, Thank you for your reply. Honestly, I have to say that I cannot verify the sir name Sellick. My Phyllis and her sister were the daughters of my father's mother's (Christiana) twin sister. They were actually born as triplets and the births registered in Snaith Church , I have seen the register there; but the boy died. We have so few members of the family alive now that I am not sure if I am able to find out more. I do not think that Phyllis or her sister married but have a funny feeling that one of them may have married really quite late in life.
Actually, now I think about it even more, I did have an uncle Tom and he could have been Tom Sellick and there was a Stanley somewhere from that branch of the family who was about the same age as my father who would now be 97 if he was still alive and that awful PSP had not 'got' him Sorry to be so ill-informed about my family, but my mother 'hated' my father's mother and sister as during rationing in the War, whilst she was living with them, I think they had a big 'fall out' over an egg, I suppose as to who should have it, and I think my mother was pregnant with a child which she mis-carried, and the incident was never forgotten or forgiven! Because of this we visited Yorkshire only very rarely Oh dear, times were hard then!

Hi Jill, Yes thank you, I have been a little slow in replying but thank you for your messages. I have been feeling a bit poorly but am better now, I think it is hay fever and I just cannot understand it as I never used to suffer from it at all. You have done some good research, I see! I have to smile because Tom Sellick is, I believe an actor and that is why I thought that my uncle Tom's name was Sellick as it was somewhat familiar sounding!! Oh dear, I think I need a holiday! It is very hot here in London and I am looking forward to a break in the weather, i.e. some rain to cool us off and clear the humidity. Happy things.....tomorrow is our eldest son's 40th birthday. How can I possibly be old enough to have a 40 year old. He owns 2 restaurants so can't celebrate in August but we are going to see him in September when he is having a big party. Guess what! I am being provided with a night nurse for 5 nights in our self catering apartment so I'll get some sleep and my darling husband can stay with me. Yeh!

Hi, sorry I forgot the time! Spent the morning doing the ironing, to help me through, I was watching old holiday videos. Seeing S striding around and speaking in a lovely clear voice was lovely! Only a couple of years ago!
We did have a party here, last week, S celebrated his 70th birthday. The English weather behaved and we were able to be outside the whole evening! You were all talking about age, I'm 59, so I guess that makes me the baby here, wish I felt like it!
Well I will raise a glass to you all this evening, especially to Peter, who cheered me up, when I couldn't sleep last night, by sending special hugs all around!

Hi, Jill. I'm in my recliner with my arm in a big sling with a bolster attached to it, and with a cryocuff, they call it, which fits around my shoulder and circulates ice water and compresses the joint. I have some painkillers going, so no drinks today. I hope we can have another party sometime soon. It's always cheering to be in touch with you and the rest of the community. As I write, my dear younger sister is coaching my guy through his PT exercises. I'm so grateful that she came all this way to help us as I recover.
I am not religious, but the church music I grew up with means a lot to me. The Methodist hymnal has some beautiful tunes and harmonies. Being part of a choir is really emotionally satisfying, too, isn't it? I wish I could be there for your hymnal hon. What a great idea! Who chooses the hymns? Love, ec

Thanks, Heady! I'm trying to take it easy, per orders, but this afternoon my guy pitched himself backwards and head first right over the new (supposed to be safer) outdoor stair railing. The poor hollyhocks caught him, and he was miraculously unhurt, but I strained the sutures for sure trying to grab him as he went. Mistake. Hurray for my sister, who was able to pull out of the flower border, off the potted herbs and to his feet. How we will manage when she goes
home, I don't know. I'd better heal fast!

I think you will have to teach. Mr EC to get up himself. I never pick S up! I always have to supervise, he hasn't got a clue how to get up himself, but I make sure he rolls on to his knees and pulls himself up, by chair, step or what ever is around. If nothing around, then he uses me to haul himself up, by getting up on his knees, then wrapping his arms around me and getting to his feet. It's hard to watch, instinct tells me to help, but all it needs is a hand here and there. I rarely have to use any effort! I can't afford to, my back is not brilliant and he is a lot heavier than me. Get the physio to help show you both.
To any new readers, S and I have been practicing regularly for a couple of years now, a good year before diagnoses. S had had a knee replacement and I was helping with his exercises and for some unknown reason (!!!!) I made him do a lot of work, getting up and down from the floor. Oh boy, was that a good idea!!! Even now, if he hasn't had a fall for a while, I make him get up from the floor. It keeps it fresh in BOTH of your minds, gives you confidence that you will be able to get back up when necessary and you can assess if you need to change the way your partner gets up, due to any new weaknesses. Better to learn in a calm atmosphere and not in a panic with blood going every way!!!
