My beloved husband Malcolm who very sadly died at home with myself and my 3 daughters by his side. Unfortunately his passing wasnt peaceful or how we were prepared for. He died from bronchul Phneumonia and in his last week he was put on the liverpool care pathway, he was very heavily sedated but on the saturday morning he deteriorated very rapidly. At the end he couldnt swallow at all and the secretions on his chest worsened dramatically. Being on the highest dosage of all medications possible to releive the secretions building up in his chest and nothing worked. My husband was only 65 when he passed, before this he was a very socail and active man until this disease robbed him of evrything, his sight, speech, movement and ability to swallow. He felt very lonely and isolated due to being unable to communicate properly. He was always a very proud man and wanted to die with dignity, and we did all we could to enable that for him. I love and miss him very very much and not a day goes by where i dont think about him and the life we shared together. xxxx

Dear Elizabeth57

I am so sorry for your loss.

Yes it is all so very sad and cruel and it has suddenly struck me, you're right about the isolation and feeling of loneliness. I will remember that the next time I get frustrated with all the demands and think, there but for the grace.

Be kind to yourselves.

I am so very sorry for your loss Elizabeth and sorry to hear it was such an uncomfortable and distressing passing. It won't help at the moment, but later hopefully you can take comfort that you did everything possible and you were all able to be there with him. There are no words to console such a loss, but love and prayers are with you. Thank you also for posting such a beautiful picture, reflecting the man he was and how important his life was. The illness is now over and with time, you will be able to focus on the man and have memories that don't bring such intense pain and heartache when you think of them. Love to you and all your family at this sad time.

So sorry to hear this, another angel gone too soon. Just like the way dad went, I wish it could have been more peaceful. May your dear husbands soul rest in peace and now he is free of PSP. In time you will remember all the good things and the way he was before this awful disease took him away. May god give you courage and strength xxxx

Dear Elizabeth

I send you my love at this terrible time for you and your daughters. This is the final hurdle of this cruel disease and I am sure that the strength you found to get over all the rest, will help you come to terms with your husband's passing. He is finally at peace, may you now find some too! Remember, you did everything possible for husband, now it's time to spend your energy on yourself and your daughters.

Much love
