The end of my father's PSP journey.

My father, Duncan, died on Saturday aged 91. He was ready to leave his frail body and PSP and as a man of faith to move on to a so much better place. He stopped being able to swallow even tiny bits of thickened liquid 8 days before he died. His carers kept his mouth comfortable with lemon glycerine swabs. He was very drowsy and relaxed and only needed a small dose of sedative on two evenings during that time. It was a gradual, natural process, so much better than I expected the end to be.

Thank you to everyone on this site for the support and information that have helped me so much in the last few years. You have been wonderful.

A sad time but what a peaceful way to leave this world and with faith, enter the next.

He was also a good age so no doubt led a long and interesting life. May you and all in your family, know peace at this difficult time.

He was a professional singer and it has been a great experience to sit with him listening to recordings of his from earlier days. The care home staff at Manor Gardens, Herons Ghyll, were wonderful. He donated his brain to the Queens Square Brain Bank for research into PSP and similar conditions, such a worthwhile thing to do. It's an exhausting time, but I am glad for him that he is free of all ailments and with his Lord.
