Hi

I have just started Kegels - the evaluation and initial instruction experience was very interesting and I learned a lot about how all that pelvic floor thing works. ( the female therapists - who was very knowledgeable and professional is really good - and I was able to deal with her inserting a finger pretty well - me being a gay man and all ... ha!)

Anyway, my question is do the Kegels really help/ change the situation ? I have been doing the exercises daily and they seem to be going well. If you would share your experiences it would be appreciated

Best

P

Yes, Kegels are important, but in my experience, not sufficient for restoring continence. At about two years post op of doing Kegels every day I had reached a plateau. I had pretty good control but still needed a pad a day. I came across a video by a physical therapist demonstrating core strengthening exercises for men following RP and talking about proper technique for doing Kegels. Both made a big difference for me. I'm now pad free except for days when I plan vigorous exercise or an evening of adult beverages. I have also been able to relax my Kegel and core exercise routines. I can skip several days every so often with no noticeable effect. Good luck!

Can you share the URL for that video? Sounds super helpful and timely for me.

Sorry I missed your comment, I didn't intend to ignore you! I thought I had that particular video bookmarked but apparently I don't. You can google the topic and find lots of material. One key point that I haven't seen elsewhere is that when you do Kegels while seated, sit as far forward on the chair as you can and lean forward. You'll find that you get a much stronger squeeze that way. I'll do some more looking and post it here if I find it.

I found where I shared the link in another group. Unfortunately the URL doesn't work anymore, it looks like they have reorganized their website. They have what looks like a prostate cancer rehab link on their home page but it's not working. This link will take you to some pelvic floor exercise topics but I have no idea if they cover what I found there a year ago. Hope this helps...
