Low lying placenta

Hello and Happy New Year! I’m almost 22 weeks now and during my 20w scan I was told my placenta was low lying. I’m now booked in to do another scan at 32w and see a consultant to discuss birth options. If the placenta doesn’t move up by then, I’ll need a C section. No news for us, we’ve had a few private scans and we knew about this as it got picked up from very early on, but we were always told not to worry as the placenta would most likely move upwards as the baby grows. At the moment is not covering the os, just adjacent to it. I was told it needs to be at least 20mm away from the os, but it’s only 13mm.

Anyone with similar experience? Do you think by the 32w scan there’s a chance the placenta is still to close to the os? Will it move?

Thanks

I had this when I was pregnant with my second baby. And I was told it will most likely move. As your pregnancy progresses the placenta should move upwards and most move enough out of the way. I didn't find out that my placenta was low until my 20w scan but by 32 weeks it had moved. I hope yours does too! Also you are more likely to get brown spotting with a low lying placenta.

Hello, I have three children and when I was pregnant with my second child, my first daughter, the placenta was low lying. I found out about this when I was eight weeks pregnant and I started seeing blood almost daily, only drops and it appeared only on the toilet paper and nothing on my panty liner. I don't remember exactly when the placenta went up, but I believe that it was around the seventh month. When I was eight months pregnant the gynacologist told me I could move freely and walk as much as I wanted. I gave birth only one day sooner than the day the doctor had estimated and I had a vaginal delivery. All of my three children were born naturally. Hope this helps!

Hi

Mine moved up but i was happy to have the extra scans that were planned in because of it.

I was told to avoid work air and ferry travel (i think incase you need to get the hospital quick and you are stuck in the air/boat). If you have a low lying placenta the midwife won't sign you off to be able to fly (a prequisite for some airlines when you hit the later weeks of pregnancy)

I ended up having a planned c section as she was breech. Was absolutely fine x

I’ll be 25 weeks tomorrow and like you was told that I have a low lying placenta. Booked in for another scan at 32 weeks. Chances are it’ll move do I’m not very worried just yet. Good luck. x
