28 Weeks pregnant... Need advice....

Hi guys,

I had a scan done/ consultant midwife yesterday and I'm looking for reassurance....

The scan showed that our little girl is weighing 997g at exactly 27+6 weeks.... I saw the consultant who said that I will be having scans every two weeks as she is a little bit small for what she should be. I am just a little bit panicked....

The rest of the scan was perfectly normal with no additional concerns for the baby other than her weight....

Not sure if relevent but I'm also having low haemoglobin and potassium therefore I am on the relevent treatment (Iron tablets ×3 daily)

I believe exactly she is 2.1lbs from a measurement conversion. My scan report states the following sizes:

Cephalic presentation:

HC 254.9mm

AC 220.8mm

FL 49.3mm

EFW 977g

Posterior placenta, not low lying

Liquor Volume Normal. AFL =13CM

UAD-EDF = PRESENT

I don't understand these results however, I have provided them to assist any advice anyone can give....

Does anyone also know what weight she should be at therefore what the normal weight is in comparison to her weight now.

Thanks :)

Hey, sorry to hear you've had this scare.

I had my 28 week scan on Friday at 28 weeks exactly and baby measured at 1168g/2lb 9oz, this is 40th percentile on the basic chart and around 25th percentile on my personalised chart. It's hard to say quite how small your baby is measuring, do you have a personalised chart based on your height and weight? If not then you should have one because not all women are the same. Even though my baby would be in the 40th percentile for an average woman, because I'm 5'8" and overweight baby's actually just around 25th percentile. So are you particularly small?

Also these measurements are fallible, my sister was told constantly that her second child would be huge with a very big head. He came out smaller than her first and on the small end of average.

I really hope everything works out and don't be afraid to ask for some explanation. Good Luck!

They should have plotted this on your personal growth curve. It’ll be in your yellow file. I’ve had A LOT of growth scans this pregnancy (he’s measuring big) and they always plot it on my curve. At your booking appointment they should have produced one specific for you, based off of your height and weight as well as other factors. So long as they are plotting along the same curve they’re growing well, they might offer you more scans if she’s measuring small, but that’s just for peace of mind to keep an eye on her growth.

I’d definitely approach your midwife and explain that you’re confused about it, they should’ve explained it all after the scan. Remember, everyone’s baby is different and will grow at different rates, which is why you need your own grow chart to tell you what’s normal for you and your baby x

Hiya my baby was 898g at 28weeks 2 days, we've had growth scans every two weeks as well and will be induced at 37 weeks, there's not much you can do regarding growth and they'll just do all the measurements and check that baby is growing in same pattern and make plans according xxxx
