I’m just so frustrated. I’m 29 weeks pregnant and had it so rough in the first 4months. Then started to injoy being pregnant. This is my third child. Now iv been told I have really low iron around 6 point Something and usually I would need a blood transfusions being this low. But as I have no symptoms of low iron they are not sure what to do. I really don’t want a blood transfusion or the injection. I’m really scared of the side effects and I have a big fear of being sick. Has anyone had a transfusion or the injection if so can you tell me what it is like.

I was anaemic and was put on high iron prescription tablets. I was told if my iron is still low after 8 weeks then I will need an iron (ferrous sulphate) drip. If needed I would have accepted the drip/injection.

I actually asked for the drip as I wanted to get back to normal iron sooner but midwife said that is more expensive and you only get offered that if your iron is extremely low.

I would have it if I were you because your baby needs blood now and you will lose blood during labour which will make you even more anaemic. Also being anaemic increases risk of vaginal and perineum tears!
