Unpasteurised Orange Juice

Hi, does anyone know if it’s safe to drink unpasteurised orange juice when pregnant? It doesn’t say anything on the NHS website but have seen other articles saying it’s unsafe to do so. Thanks

It’s safe to eat an orange so I can’t imagine what would be so bad about fresh orange juice? In fact I would say it’s good for you! I’m no expert, just speculating. I drink lots of cold pressed fruit and veg juices to make sure i’m getting lots of vitamins. Is it a American thing? They have much stricter rules on what you can/can’t have during pregnancy than in the UK.

a lot of chemicals banned in the UK can still be used in the states so they have much stricter rules for pregnant women. At lest you can enjoy with a clear conscience now! X

Never drink or eat anything unpasteurized while your pregnant just to be safe. They have a chemical in that can be bad for the baby.

I have never heard of unpasteurised orange juice! But I would ask midwife just to be on the safe side.

All juices that are shop bought are pasteurised. They would go off otherwise plus pose a risk to our health. The longlife cartoons outside of the fridge are pasteurised too. You'll be surprised how much science goes behind them.

If you want fresh as in fresh...squeeze at home and drink immediately as you squeeze or press or blend as they oxidise quickly and separate in the open air and vitamins quickly diminish.

Thanks all for your comments. I’ve been drinking lots of M&S orange juice as water is make my me gag this time around. I didn’t realise until a friend pointed out that the label had unpasteurised in bold letters. Will definitely check with the midwife. X
