HAPPY EARTH DAY! Where were you on the very first Earth Day?

youtube.com/watch?v=eYenQ5C...

I hope this link works for you.

On this first Earth Day (April 22,1970) I hauled my butt to down to San Francisco. I was still in the Navy then , (I risked being jailed for my participation ) But I went. From early days in school I'd been a treehugger (before it was a thing). It was a smallish celebration as I remember. It made a huge impact on me.

That inspired me to activism. Protests, writing congress, educating those who would listen, planting trees in Oregon and Washington (in fact I have planted a tree or two where ever I have lived this past 50 plus years. ).

Since that day I've honored planet and done what I could to take care of it (in mostly legal ways) , where ever I have lived. Now I live on a mountain in the forest. I'm even more , shall we say assertive in my protection of this land.

We are guests here on Mother Earth We DO NOT own her. It's the only planet we have. So far. We've yet to find another planet to go screw up...

Act accordingly, our lives depend on it.

Go hug a tree you'll feel better for having done so.

Sore shoulder and a bit "hung over" from my second COVID shot. But that's not going to stop me from being out in my forest giving thanks to be here.

Take your time with being active in the forest 🌳 today. If you have any soreness, rest.

Did you get any rest last night from the vaccine?

in reply to Activity2004

Adequate rest.. But I'm still sluggish. Sleep was a challenge to keep from sleeping on the side where I got the shot.. 😦 Better today still some soreness. If it's anything like last time it'll be a few days before I'm back to being what passes for normal😉

Try to get some rest and sleep on the opposite side so you can have less pain.😀👍🌈

in reply to Activity2004

LOL! Easier said than done. I'd have to sleep on my couch so as not to roll around😉😀 Yes , rest. Minimal activities today. It was too cold and foggy to hike up to the large grove of old growth North of my cabin. Chose to hug the big conifer out in my yard.

Taking a break from working for a few days is good for a few days until the arm feels better from the vaccine. You can always also do circles with your arm that had the vaccine so it can move and not stay in one place afterwards. This can reduce some of the pain.😀👍🌈

Hi Lazarus. I was twenty, living in Fort Lauderdale. Taking the Earth and all it had to offer completely for granted. Truly ignorant. Thank goodness for you and people like you to give an ignoramus a good kick in the patooty to awareness. I’ve come a long way, baby. Thank you for all your efforts. ❤️🏄‍♀️

You're welcome and thank you. The world needs to become more mindful of the impact we have on the environment. Welcome to your planet!😀👍

Every little bit counts and it seems you have contributed a lot thus far including planting trees for the last 50 yrs. Thank you! Beautiful photo. Congrats on getting your final shot.

It's all about reducing our footprint on our precious earth, one step at a time.

Thank you very much.. It's been an adventure being a steward of the planet even if I elected myself to the role.

Well I, for one appreciate it, especially since I've loved trees all my life. Even though I dont know much about them in terms of different varieties, names etc..

in reply to Imaaan

The best way to learn about trees is to look for information, and get out and be among them.. They don't bite and love the attention. Although some have more bark than others😉

Oh I do go out and about in nature and have done so for ages. Used to go camping...well more like staying in basic cabins with family and friends. Never done a tent....though

I'm only going in a tent under 2 circumstances: #1 the circus is in town & #2 it has wall-wall carpeting, ac, fridge, microwave & tv

Again, thank you! Lady Hypo (interesting screen name).. The photo was taken from my driveway. I count myself as fortunate to be able to live here.

Lol....my name came about cuz my original plan was to put a post on the thyroid forum in HU because I have hypothyroidism and then leave. Somehow I stuck around and now I'm stuck with it without any hope of changing it.

You're welcome.. This web site can be habit forming Both from the mutual support on serious matters as well as the not so serious.. I enjoy both.

You probably weren't born yet.. I don't see much except token acknowledgement these days. The movement has a significant impact on polluters. Emission standards Clean Air and Water Act, International councils on the environment etc. etc. 😉👍 Let's hope my humble post has reached others and at least gained a bit more people being aware.

not alive

in reply to thara9643

You're here now..😉

In 1970 my son was two and my daughter newly born. Man had landed on the moon the previous year and my life as a young mum stretched ahead of me. They were happy days for me! Far from the active way in which you chose to spend your first Earth Day, but life back then seemed simpler and happier and we made less demands of the earth which you quite rightly say does not belong to any one of us. We are just a part of its journey and it of ours.👍

in reply to Callendersgal

Welcome aboard! Hope you enjoy the ride! I feel/felt much the same as you. I didn't have any obligations back then just my Naval tour to finish. I prefer to do my work quietly, thru planting and caring for Nature, and reaching out when I can to hopefully educate others. The main reason Earth Day was begun was a to bring awareness and changes to what we have done to the planet. Some changed laws and habits in their way. Others have not been so supportive..
