My neighbour Steve suggested going for a walk yesterday,we walked about 3 miles, but i was so out of breath and struggled to breath, but when I arrived home,i took 4 herbal sleep aid pills, and i slept far better than i had for a very long time, but this morning i am aching like crazy, but i will persevere in walking a bit every day,as i know how much better it is for me,and before my partner became so ill 5 years ago,i was walking at least 4 miles every morning, and the weight fell off big time, but now i am so overweight and i hate it,so here's hoping i will shift a few pounds if i continue walking, plus its the time of year when i will be doing lots outside in the garden, and hoping i will get my mojo back,up and running.?

I do walk pretty regularly, almost every day, but usually fr less than a half hour and don't always do a fast enough pace. Think am not active enough otherwise. Need to lose a stone. I like your determination. I eat healthy enughfod, but too often and portions too big
Well done for walking nearly every day Roxylox, itβs more than I do. Perhaps you could build up your pace gradually.I use a smaller plate to help keep my portions smaller, it has worked for me.π
Thank you Rachmaninov, I'll try building up. Did try the smaller plate thing a few times, just got out of the habit. Must try t be more consistent, thanks
I would try that R but I know I would go out and refill!! ππ
I wish you every success with your endeavours. You don't realise how hard regaining fitness is until you lose it. Since suffering a brain injury five years, ago my fitness levels have got progressively worse due to difficulties managing severe physical and cognitive fatigue. I have tried to do my best on my own, but next month I will finally get to see a physiotherapist who specialises in neurological rehabilitation and I hope that he or she can help me find out how to work to improve things. It's horrible being unable to walk for exercise. I am looking forward to finally having professional advice and a plan! ππΈ
I hope the physiotherapist is able to help you to improve your fitness Marnie. I think that when you are able to make a plan you will feel more confident in achieving your aims. Roll on next month and good luck with the physiotherapist.ππ
I did standing push-ups with my hands on the kitchen top and high knees walking with one hand on the top to steady me every time I boiled the kettle when I was struggling with my balance and that helped.
i do wish you every success on meeting your physiotherapist and getting help.
Well done for taking the first steps, quite a number of them, to a healthier you, and for having the determination to keep it going! You are inspiring me to do something myself! Mobility issues mean I can't go for walks like I used to, which does get me down as it was one of my absolutely favourite things to do, but that doesn't mean I have to always sit on my backside 24/7 as I have found myself doing!π Xxx
Oh Niao...its the easiest thing in the world to just sit back and do nothing, that was me.
Actually my mam got weighed and she put a stone on usually out and about but during winter pandemic spends most the morning same as I was in bed watching TV and she stopped walking out completely at one point I have had days when intended to but never due to crowds in park and the day had gone sat on here lol so I am getting a grip on that, as I mentioned I felt exhilarated when did all that garden work and made me want to do more, I washed kitchen cuboard out yesterday at my house had to be done a leak on tools that were dumped in there made rust I feel better now I'm getting jobs done,it's lovely blue sky here but as going for jab will sit in sun in window get the light therapy and have walk later when I couldnt get in park I started feeling lethargic from.doing nothing but reach for whatever to eat at times,so started street walking, my weights this morning was 8 11 so gone up a bit I've been tryner put it on as should be more 9 half really it's more toning I need on my arms, swimming and d I y will help more to do in garden if I decide to stay got some pavers to move from bottom garden, and chippings to get up and move in wheel barrow, if I keep busy I'll feel better too and think less no time to sit and dwell, so off to get my light window therapy now hope you get some today and walk up down garden with your doggies and play ball if you feel less achey don't over do it build up gradual ππΊ πππ
Well done secrets this is the best thing I'm so pleased your getting out and walking it doesn't matter how much you do small steps at first as with it all and you will reach your goal and the exercise in itself will help you sleep and you can come off your herbal meds too, it does make so much difference to our moods the time of year so get out in sun as much as you can that light is so important to mood take care sending a hug π€ππππxxx
Well done for getting out there, hopefully youβll be encouraged on by nodding daffodils and spring blooming in other ways around you as you walk
All the best
Ali π
Great that you walked 3 miles secrets, and had a good sleep after.π Perhaps you could begin with a short walk and build up gradually to 4 miles again. I hope like you that short spells of work in the garden will help with my health and fitness, but I am going to take it slowly.π
It's just incredible how inactivity and a rather generous diet will destroy a former level of fitness secrets22. Well done for achieving 3 miles! Now you've seen first hand what has happened to you, and maybe it'll give you a bit of a spur to turn things around. But to think of it positively, the health damage is reversible, and I also think that the better weather is likely to entice more of us to venture outdoors more. Best of luck with it and don't forget to post an update or two on how you're doing! π
Well done secrets on taking those first steps - literally. 3 miles is a commendable start! Your fitness will slowly return I'm sure and walking with a friend is a great idea as it 'kills 2 birds with 1 stone' in that it's the only way to socialise at the mo. Sometimes I meet up with a friend, she does walk faster than me uphill which I struggle with, but we both see it as a good way to 'walk and talk' and not really notice the walking bit too much!
On another forum someone posted a video explaining that keeping fit and watching the weight is not about motivation but discipline which I thought was a very good way of seeing it. If I listened to my motivation I wouldn't do much, but I just push myself to "do it" anyway and then feel so much better after I've been on that walk. I know that I have to take a firm but kind hard with myself, rather than listening to the more negative feelings.
It's also about positive reinforcement - the more you do the more you'll want to do. (or so I tell myself!)
I'll be thinking of you walking around Ladye Bay but sounds like you'll be venturing much further!
Wow well done on walking 3 miles. Since I did my back in around 4 years ago now I can barely walk and have to use a stick.
I have just bought a mini exerciser from Ideal World. You sit in a chair and exercise like riding a bike. I hope this will help my mobility. I'm desperate to be able to get out more and walk better without pain.
Three miles walking is great!I walk 5km or more every day, and I have lost 5Β½ stone in less than three years.
I suggest a Low-Carbohydrate, High-Fat diet (LCHF) and Intermittent Fasting (IF):
That's quite an achievement secrets, I think you should be proud of that and you slept well after too which is great. Well done. x
Thanks! Good reminder! can go for my daily walk around the block now, had me jab! Get some fresh air?π€π€π€π€
