Once the correct size is achieved, by slotting in the intended 22mm bead for fit, the edge must be a good tight fit, requiring level hand filing.
Once the fit is nice and tight, by pushing one edge slightly under the other and then pulling it up & out again to 'maintain the tension', the cylinder is now ready to be soldered.
So far so good!

It's a bit Zen!You sort of get lost in what your doing and somehow it's no longer just 'you' because you become part of 'it'...
Equally, if you are feeling upset or angry, it's best not to do anything with a gas torch!! You will indubitably fluff it if you do!
In fact sometimes when preparing to execute something particularly difficult, before I light up, I make a point of saying out loud something beautiful and encouraging and if always goes well!! It's amazing. The positive vibes are channeled in to the work directly and conversely, negatively destroys your efforts. Now there's a lesson!
That's really lovely, after seeing your previous posts I was going to ask you the size but you have answered that. I have long made jewellery, but bought the beads esp. interesting semi precious stones, and findings. At the start of this year I bought a kiln, intending to work with precious metal clay, but got interested in glass fusing so have been absorbed in that. Do you use a kiln or is it hand heated? My husband was a luthier before he retired i.e. he works with stringed instruments and bows. Recently he has been doing more metal work for his bow parts so I asked him to make me a ring as a special gift for my 70th and he did in the summer. So I am used to the terms you are using here.
Have you come across Argentium? It is silver alloyed with germanium and is, in some ways, easier to work. But the attraction for us is it is more tarnish resistant and as we live on the coast, in Spain, that is a really valuable asset. You might like to have a look. My ring is Argentium, I posted it here back in the summer but I'm adding a photo now for you to see.
Getting absorbed in our crafts has been so good in these times, we have studios in the lower part of the house, go down there, pop in and out to show one-another what we are doing.
Do keep posting, your work is fascinating and very lovely. You may have inspired me to open the packets of precious metal clay!!
It is very satisfying indeed. When it goes wrong though, you have to learn to walk away and come back later, that can be hard because you want it to go right so much that you can push too much! I suppose it also forms a part of "not being too hard on yourself"... Taking a step back and letting things be... It's very Tao of PoOH!!! Letting go and letting the force of Universe take over... When you work with fashioning metal using 'fire' I think it frees your mind and allows you to experience many thoughts...
My wonderful grandfather always used to say, had Dolphins evolved hands instead of fins, they would be the dominant life species as they are more intelligent than we are! Yet it is our hands that have made us what we are! 🙏
It's not an easy design to create & make. The large 20 mm beads required are almost impossible to find - that is quality stones, you can always find fake rubbish, but I never contemplate that. The quality of my work speak for itself - without wishing to found conceited! This current pandemic is causing big problems and big ripples right across the world. The obvious harm it causes is highlighted, but even the smaller things like gem supplies are suffering. Gem dealers here in the UK are running so low on stock things are becoming impossible to obtain!
I hope to do some more today 😉 to take the cylinder to the next level. Attaching the fitted D-shaped wires is very tricky...
