Part 3. The positive benefits of creativity; my day at the workbench: fusing silver to make a cylinder... Pickled and hand polished.

All cleaned up in the acid pickle and cleaned up by hand and wire brushed to reveal the subtle 'orange peel' surface. Some of the little triangles form air bubbles beneath which gives a lovely added texture. The very nature of 'fusing silver metal' involves considerable serendipity! You can't totally control what you end up with! So each piece is unique!

The sheet is now ready to be formed into a cylinder, around a round mandrel.

Tell me more, I would love to see them!

That is beautiful. The only thing cheering me up atm is making a list of things I’ll do “ when Covid is over”. I’m going to add silver work to the list. Thank you for showing us your work. More, please !!

I read an article which explained how important it was for us now, to survive this pandemic mentally and emotionally, is to think of thinks to look forward to and literally plan, plan and plan... So you are doing the right thing!

There are always abstracts! Sometimes we need 'liberating'. Try it you might enjoy it! Whilst listening to the 1812 overture! Could be fun!!

Really lovely Poppy_the_cat. I probably wouldn't try anything that ambitious but I do enjoy 'faking it' with kitchen foil, which is how I finished this balsa wood box.

I love your ideas! The hook has mimicked a reticulated 'orangd peal' effect. It looks great! Have you varnished it it protected it with something! It's really lovely! If it's fragile, you could always frame it in a deep frame, like an 'exhibit'... It's very cute indeed! Well done. I love it. 😉

Thanks Poppy_the_cat! The surface is fairly well protected with a couple of coats of PVA glue. I doubt it could ever be as durable as your lovely silver but it'll hopefully have a good run for its money! 😃

I have made one before... It's a temptation to show the photos...but I will resist because that would be too easy! I will show all the different processes because it's a lot of blood sweat and sometime tears! You always need a recovery plan for when things don't always go to plan!! But that the same in Life isn't it! 😁

Goodness that is beautiful.

Thank-you I would appreciate that. I have also worked with coins. My favourite is a coin featuring Zeus from Thrace, modern day Bulgaria dated 80 B.C - 40 A.D

They are two totally different mindsets I find... The abstract particularly for me is very 'mood' sensitive. The abstracts I've done have given me immense pleasure and the results have been pretty good too. I sold my work which is always a good measure when people are willing to pay you for your output!!I particularly remember painting a beautiful, tonal geometric abstract when mg incredible dog died. He was the glue that at that time held us together. His loss was monumental. My picture reflected his passing and his journey. It still makes me emotional over 25 years later. We can never underestimate the power of the visual image. x
