I answered a 'Post' recently, from hb2003, regarding- I thought- a Reaction to the American Election. I kept, my 'Post', fairly Upbeat, and pointed out- again I believed in a Friendly way- our Joint History. That the Mayflower sailed, from Harwich, and that the American Colonies were founded by ourselves, the Dutch and the Irish.
I went on, to say, that I couldn't really comment, on your Election, and that we- in Britain- Know little, if anything, about Joe Biden. (I Framed It, in terms of us- as a Sovereign Nation- wishing to Forge Trade Links).
Somehow, and I can Honestly say that 'I Don't Know How', I have Offended some American Folk. I, very definitely, DIDN'T mention The Colonies, our Governance, or indeed Any Laws that we may have Imposed....my 'Post' was, I thought, merely a 'Celebration' of our Combined Heritage.
I have clearly been seen, in some quarters, as an Imperialist- which I Am REALY NOT. I'm actually embarrassed by our 'Colonial' History and, The Way 'we' Treated Other Nations. I can Fully appreciate, the Anger and Resentment, felt towards us.
I Didn't expect My Conciliatory, and Celebratory, comments to be Taken so Negatively. Can I ask that, anyone who was Offended, to please re-read my Reply- in the Light Hearted way, that I intended it.
Surely if We, and I mean Everybody, is to 'Get On' in the future we ALL need to be Accepting Of The Past.... As The PAST and Move On, from there. Hanging onto Past 'Injustices' 'Colonialism' 'Oppression' and general 'Bad Feeling' can, will and- by appearances has- led to 'Mis-Understandings'.... the Last 'Thing' I intended.
Comments on that 'Post' have now been Blocked, presumably to stop any further Offence, being caused. May I, once again, assure You All- that I- intended None at all.

I editted my reply to Andrew above, as it seemed that I was prepared to stir things up, while asking our American cousins to forget the past, and look to the future, and make it better for all!
Hi Hiba, absolutely no need for anything like that. It's only that there are a couple of topics which can easily become inflammatory, and politics is one of them, and that's what happened on this occasion. That's why we mention it particularly in our guidelines. We love that you are an active member of our community, and now you know how it can all accidentally go wrong, I know you'll avoid posting in that way again. No damage done and definitely we want you to be here!
We seem to live in an age where somethings wrong if we're not offended by something, and i'm offended if you're not offended. (i mean this jokingly before anyone gets offended.)
I am not offended and have fully appreciated all your previous posts, so thank you, even if I do live in the US.
When in England a few years ago (really enjoyed every minute of it) a number of people, unsolicited, said you folks would have been better off to have stayed with us.
Yes; there is something to be said for that. However on 20 Jan we might break even.
Hi, AndrewT, I didn't read your earlier post but can assure you as a "cousin" from across the pond that we can all do better at sharing values which unite us rather than those that divide.
I've long said and firmly believe that communication is the most important and hardest thing we humans attempt. My most fervent wish is that history will remember and recount both the heroic and devastating lessons of this past Covid 2020 year.
I so enjoy reading posts from this largely British group and salute all who share here. I've learned so much more about England as a result and truly look forward to the photos posted and expressions used that differ from those in the U.S.
Every country on earth shares some shame at misdeeds carried out over history. All we can do is work to be more understanding of those whose views may differ from our own and strive hard for civility.
Wishing you and all a much better, happier and safer new year!
Hi AndrewT, I realise you say you feel as if you may have 'offended some American folk', I just wanted to say sorry if I had anything to do with all this upset.
I'm afraid I can react before completely digesting what I read, I feel I may have seen red and jumped on my high horse, reading your reply to something; I did come back on the following day and the post had been removed. Please accept my apologies and know I did not mean to offend/upset anyone.
I am non religious, non political and should leave these topics to those who know better.
I have learned a valuable lesson, i will continue the want for peaceful and equal unity for all and thank you for the education, advice and support you offer.
Remember and be kind to yourself.
Stay safe, keep well and be strong.
