I’m suffering from missed heartbeats for the past 3 days, It’s not my AF or SVT, So uncomfortable and scary. Was in A&E over new years eve, but they didn’t get it on the short ecg they did , so they did blood tests, some came back negative and still waiting for thyroid ones. They keep saying it’s anxiety. Anyone had the same experience. I’m very anxious, I suffer from anxiety quite badly.

Missing beats

I've been suffering from tacycardia (fast heart beat) and bradycardia (slow heart beats) by turn for what will be four years in March of this year. It comes and goes and remains undiagnosed mostly through lack of equipment in the way of holters, and like you mine has been blamed on caffeine or anxiety. Hands up, it could be coffee, though I often drink coffee without it starting up. I am the least anxious person to be found. I live in the current moment and meditate daily and could probably teach most GP's about mindfulness. I tried a short course of a beta-blocker but hated being so sleepy all of the time and actually I still suffered the same problem. What I'd say to you is that I'm still alive and fine, four years on! It's not a medical emergency and treatment given is based around management so that having a stroke is less likely. The last time I mentioned to a GP that I was worried about having a stroke, evoked the response that 'I'm quite likely to have one anyway at my age' (72).
So don't make yourself any more anxious about this than you are already. If you belong to the AF group on HealthUnlocked, you'll probably find many other health histories which are very like both yours and mine.
You should of course mention this change to your GP, in case any further course of action is felt necessary, but many people do live with heart arrhythmias and do OK. Hope this settles down for you soon or that you can get some further reassurance from a medical professional.
Thanks, i don’t have caffeine, I have a booked appointment with Dr, on Wednesday, so will see what she says.
Best of luck with your appointment on Wednesday!
Thanks
Hello, About 30 years ago I started experiencing the same sensations of my heart appearing to be missing a heartbeat and catching my breath. It wasn't painful but it was irritating. Each doctor I visited in my Practise didn't pick them up and said "many people experience something like this from time to time, its nothing to worry about". It continued to bother me and I eventually saw one of the older, more experienced doctors who listened to my concerns.
Using his stethoscope he stayed and listened to my heart which seemed for ages, but eventually he said excitedly"I've got it!". Thankfully he heard the irregular sounds. My heart was missing a beat and that was the feeling I was experiencing when it caught my breath.
He advised me not to wait for an NHS appointment but to go privately. I saw a heart specialist the following week and he diagnosed two leaky heart valves, and an enlarged heart. I was put on medication and the fluttering sensations eventually disappeared. I haven't had any further problems over the years apart from becoming a little more breathless. But nothing major. If it turns out you have a similar problem to mine just remember I have lived with the condition for many years and it hasn't impacted on my life at all.
Best wishes and I hope you get your problem resolved as soon as possible so that you can continue to lead a happy, active life.
Cheers.
Missed heartbeats can be the "compensatory pause" after an ectopic (out of sync) heartbeat. My late wife used to lie in bed at night wondering when my heart would beat next!
Hi Jerry and sixtychic, magnesium is interesting I will click the link, as you know I have been having a pounding sensation not irregular as such but am aware of it and it's quite alarming I have occasionally had a bit of irregularity but this was times of extreme stress and I also found this happened on 2 occasions when I had a few to drink a long time ago, as this effects the blood concentrate and so if the heart isn't getting the correct oxygen it will cause missed beats, I became caffeine sensitive about 5years ago maby longer time flies and loose track to be honest,so I stopped drinking caffeine then I went on h r t low does patches about 2 half years ago and this corrected all my heart changes,so this was hormonal until I came upon extreme stress, I also realised could drink a weaker caffeine tea and as looked it up to find decaffinated tea goes through a process and looses goodness, as we know so many of our health issues are diet related and chamomile tea is a relaxant and good for healing the stomach,e c g don't show up a irregular beat unless it's irregular at the time so it's a tricky one, my mam had this problem and didn't always show up it is common for people to have irregular beats and no problem with the heart, there is a good distraction breathing technique were you breath in to count of 3 deeply hold for 3 then big puff out I hope anyone reading this will find this helpful.🤗
Thanks, I am anxious, It’s affecting my life, badly at the moment. I’m so scared of catching covid, as viruses seem to bring on P.AF. I don’t drink or have caffeine, i take 250 mgs of magnesium oxide.
Hi do you need to go out to work or shopping if so then is it possible to go on sick and get help you could speak to your doctor about your anxiety, my mam was given a muscle relaxant for her back and to help sleep I took it in times of extreme anxiety it calmed me right down and my heart stopped pounding I used to self medicate and turn to alcohol but after a bad wake up call I nipped it in the bud, I have had on off anxiety all my life as I'm a bit of a worrier and find my walks in park and photography help me, but I feel this would make you feel worst right now so I would stay in and feel safe as my mam is doing she is over 8o and high risk what are your circumstances please, I hope you will look at my photos posts as a lot have said they have helped there anxiety xx please enlarge image and gaze into the picture deep breath as you do this hope this helps take care chat soon xx
Thanks.curly. I am 69, so don’t work. I’ve had 4 bouts of anxiety since my twenties,It started in the 70’s when my 9 month old son nearly died twice and had several operations. It seems worse when something traumatic happens or something I feel I can’t control, happens.or I have a health problem.. I have just started private zoom cbt, so hope it might help. Have phone appointment with GP wednesday, will see what she says.
Oh I'm sorry about your son,I understand about when something taumatic happens long story but I had rats invade my kitchen ceiling over a year ago and under floor boards coming from nebours broken drain leading off sewer drain, I love animals and it broke my heart having to get environment health in and they poisoned them a man came every week then fortnight to put baite in the ceiling rat dropping would fall I don't want to upset you so I won't go on, but this triggered bad anxiety I thought I had lost my home too and I fell out with the nebour my dad was in a home after a stroke and his dementia was rapid and he was falling a lot and this added to my anxiety, mam had heart attack too, during this time, and last year the virus came my dad died also and other stuff and it all just accumulated and my mams anxiety effects me, but I'm finding this site distracts and comforts me and I have laugh too which is the best thing can you watch some comedy, I have to go right now I'm trying to help mam do a online order but keep in touch hugs from Mandy and pixie 🐆my cat some of my posts are quite amusing if you have look with pixie on xx
You seem to have been through the mill.. Not surprising you suffered anxiety.Covid is making so many people anxious. Will look at them. I find health unlocked AF useful. Will be glad when vaccine comes to us. Keep weel
Thanks I take 250mg magnesium oxide
More than likely it's anxiety although it's frightening though when it happens!
Hi have you had problem beats I bet you did when that trouble with selfish work people and phone calls my blood boils at things like that I am trying not to let stuff like annoying people get to me but isn't always easy there not worth us ruining our health for what are you doing today what meals I've just had a tin of cheap potatoes from Morrisons found in emergency supplies in loft xx
I have had them on and off but at the moment I am OK and some of my friends said they have had them and were frightened and my gp reassured me that it was anxiety and had said I was doing really well given the current circumstances.
Today I have been out for a short walk which I enjoyed, listened to music and watching ghost busters this afternoon on DVD.
At my previous job after I had been led on about working in the registration department there when I got brought back downstairs there had been an upset and when things had calmed down a colleague had said to me you shouldn't let them upset you which is right and I had said I know I shouldn't but sometimes it just does though.
With the annoying phone calls if they're not expected then I decided I will only answer in the rare event that I really have nothing better to do which seems like a fair deal as if something really is urgent and important then they will call back later on.
I had a bacon sandwich this morning for breakfast and it was a late one so not bothered with lunch but having a 5.30 tea with home made beef and potato pie.
Hope Pixie is well and enjoying his spoils! Baby is fine and looking forward to her video call tomorrow at 1pm when she meows at the end to say bye bye!
My mam was rushed to hospital 6 years ago sent home with diagnosed indegestion said won't have heart attack in next 3 month's 2 weeks later her heart specialist appointment came through after more chest pain and missed beats he did tests said she not safe to go home there was a 95 percent block main heart artery you can't trust them all the time, there so busy at hospital I best not say anymore as some NHS workers are so clever and thorough I think you have to look after yourself and reasearch and persist on getting further help in situations like this her pain was arful xx
Funny you should say this. I've been getting something similar over the Christmas period although not bad enough to go to A&E. I was also getting GI problems and I was so weepy, crying for no apparent readon. To be honest I think in my case it was build up of covid stress and thankfully I am feeling much better now . I don't normally suffer from anxiety but remember ending up in A&E when I had serious issues at work. That time I also had chest pains but all tests came back ok and they put it down to extreme stress and anxiety. That was in the days before I had af.Wishing you wellxx🐰
That sounds like stress and it's frightening how stress builds up over time.
No you weren't crying for no reason covid has hit everyone hard but in different ways.
Really helpful Mydexter😂😂😂😂
