I decided to have a go at felting this week. I’m loving it. The first thing I made was the rabbit. Then out of scraps left over I made the tiny hedgehog.
Yesterday I made a tomte gnome and some pumpkins. Not sure why I made a gnome and pumpkins but I’m quite pleased and surprised with how they came out but the main thing is I’m having fun.
It’s an easy thing to get into and good for anyone whose eye can not deal with close detail work or if you don’t have such a steady hand.
I also did a felted picture of a tree. Does anyone else do felting?
Ali 🙂

See my response below. Honestly it’s not difficult and I’m not artistic or anything and it doesn’t take long. The hardest thing about it was not snapping the needle which I did 3 times 🙄
Thank you so much x I bought some cream wool. Bundled it up so it was the sort of shape I wanted and then put the coloured wool on top then I pricked it with the pin thing till it was the shape I wanted. It’s the woolly felt not the flat felt. Which did you try?
I done dry felt kit but did not turn out like it was meant to . Around the foam it went out of shape . Since done wet felt flowers they turned out fabulous via dry felt and that was awful .
They are amazing they take a bit to put together and you will need special glue .......... You can do anything with dry and wet felt Some I cannot do but I did do some dry felt some do not work out we only know by trying :).
Absolutely. I’ve never done any craft as I thought I couldn’t do it and now I’m enjoying felting, drawing and watercolours all during the lockdown. It’s a case of trying lots of things and seeing what you enjoy 😊
Yes lots of hobbies and no time . I am crocheting a baby toy someone is having a baby and a present ..
They are brilliant Ali and I thought they were real pumpkins. The rabbit is cute and what a lovely hobby. It must have been quite difficult making the little hedgehog.
Looks Great! I was looking into getting back into sewing and crafting? Maybe scarfs? One of my daughters suggested drawing names and making a homemade gifts? I have material to do it for Christmas gifts? Since I know Money will be Tight for countless numbers of people. Time to get Creative 😷🌲
Yes indeed, homemade gifts are much more precious. Have a friend who does cross stitch pictures and her gifts last much longer than sets of bath and shower creams etc
Seem that my girls have grown up because they use to hate when I use too make them homemade gifts. But I haven’t been movtivated to do anything. Dealing with depression, diabetes and was recently told that my right eye has a disease that it will eventually go blind ( macular degeneration ). There is No cure. Then all the things going on virus, finances. And didn’t get a job I recently interviewed for. So Nothing POSITIVE going 😞
God bless you, depression is truly dreadful and difficult to know what to say except that we are always here to chat and offload to. Take care my love xxx
These are lovely, well done! How clever of you. Please post any others you make. Really enjoyed seeing these, think you have a flair for this hobby, amazing. Thanks for sharing xx
Oh wow really. That’s so king of you. I’m definitely going to make something else but need to decide what. I’ve got all the “stuff” now so there is nothing to stop me.
Hi Ali. I have tried most crafts. I have a craft room full of half finished projects ( I must finish some of them.) I do mainly paper crafting and patchwork quilting but will have a go at anything. I did try a felting machine which was good fun but have never done any by hand. I love the things you have made particularly the rabbit and hedgehog. It looks like you have been doing it a long time they are so good. Do you do any other crafts? x
Paper crafting sounds fun. No it’s all very new to me as I couldn’t even draw a straight line at the beginning of lockdown. I’ve always been cross with myself and wondered why I had no creative talents but I had a mental block without realising it. I literally felt it lift at the beginning of lockdown and now I can do a few things. I do watercolour painting now, drawing, felting and I’ve just learnt how to use my sewing machine which I have had for about 8 years! Thank you for your kind words!
Well done you, love your rabbit and the pumpkins are seasonal and will look lovely to decorate your home in the autumn. Not done felting but I am trying to knit again and have started a tea cosy in a pumpkin shape. Something to do when I can't garden.
These look fabulous. It's something I fancy having a go at so have bought myself a fox kit. Maybe in the long dark winter nights I'll get round to doing it.😏
Hi Alli, I can imagine teh rabbit being a chld's favourite toy and I for one would dangle the small piumpkins from a Christmas tree. The lovely thing about the rabbit is that it has a unique character. I find the pumpkins almost organic since they have that hariy type of skin - quite good too for a stress ball ha ha. I wonder if you could do a step-by-step guide how to make them or direct us to the YouTube site that gave you the inspiration. Please post pictures of all new constructions! And well done. It is an achievement to be proud.
That’s so kind. I haven’t looked at any tutorials so I just made it up as I went along but I’ve just looked on you tube and there are several on there. I have no more ideas of what to make so I’ll have to search on line. I know a few friends who would like the pumpkins so I have just ordered some more orange felt. It all adds up but I think having a hobbie is well worth while.
They're lovely it's something I've admired and kept thinking I'll have to try but never got around to it. The rabbit is great for a first attempt you wouldn't think it.
Fantastic! Love the bunny of course. Its face has such a realistic expression.Ours lifts his head like that when he wants stroking! And the hedgehog is so cute.I've also had a go at felting: I went to a workshop where we made Christmas mice. I bought a kit to make some robins, one of a bunny and one of a blue tit but I haven't got round to making them yet.Something for the winter months. It's very therapeutic isn't it?
Yes it is. I love the sound of the needle poking in and out. How lovely. I noticed there is a Felt type shop near my MIL in Somerset and I’m going to ask her If she does workshops so the next time I’m down that way maybe I could do that. Christmas mice sound so lovely. I wish you were near me!! 😁
The workshop I went to was at the Country Living magazine Christmas fair in London a couple of years ago.The company is called the Makerss: they might have a kit online or do demos on You Tube. They do appear on the Create and Craft channel sometimes and do some of the knitting and stitching shows.Unfortunately I didn't keep the instructions for the mouse. I remember we made a frame out of pipe cleaners then worked the wool round it, so it could be put in different poses. We also gave it a small Santa hat which was made by felting a flat triangle which was shaped into the hat.
I had never heard of it before now. Those are lovely, and to create something that I enjoy doing is important. So glad you are doing it. Congratulations, and keep on.
Riding my bike daily, weather permitting; planning and eating healthy meals;and reading (doing a read-through of Shakespeare at the moment). I am as busy as I wish to be. Thanks for asking.
Well it’s a good idea to get out on your bike before the winter arrives. I haven’t read Shakespeare but I saw Taming of the shrew at the globe theatre in London a few years ago and that was fun. Glad you’re keeping yourself occupied.
Yes, January and February can be somewhat challenging, even in the southeastern USA. TS is a wonderful play, as I am sure you discovered. Two decades ago, my wife and I took a tour of the “new” Globe, quite a thrill for me. Both my undergrad and grad degrees are in English, so that’s where my interest is. I also LOVE reading Chaucer in Middle English. The difficulty with that is that I think it’s best read aloud, and someone overhearing me might cause one to conclude that this old man is quite wacko—-and the case might be made!
No I don’t snap the needles I just prefer doing pictures. Mainly country scenes. I’m going to a workshop at the end of October to learn how to make felt scarves. They’re very delicate and beautiful . How did you add in a picture?
Thank you! That’s a good idea. I’m just getting to grips with my sewing machine. Masks are a great thing to be making at the moment. I’ve just told a local school I’d make them some small throwing bean bags so I hope I can do it. 😁
What a lovely group of felted work Ali, they are gorgeous and my particular favourites are the pumpkins but I do really like them all!
I’ve never replied to anything on here but I wanted to thank you for your post because I have a kit with everything to make a felted bunny and I just feel I can’t create something like that, but you have given me confidence to seek it out and give it a go!
It may be a while but I’ll let you know how it goes!
That’s so lovely Deborah. I’m not at all crafty. I used to get cross with myself and used to think I couldn’t do anything like this. My advice would be take time to get the right shape and it then all falls into place. I would say if I can do it anyone can so crack on with it and have fun. Also the things don’t take long to make they come together quite quickly.
Thank you for your lovely reply. Good luck with your rabbit xx
I had to send you a quick note Ali because your original post, along with your fabulous felted creations, gave me the inspiration to find the kit I had “put somewhere safe” and take the time to get started and fit in with other stuff!!!
I did it!! I got started and I am loving it!! I’m not finished because I haven’t given a lot of time to it yet. However, I WILL post a pic of the Bunny when it’s finished.
Thank you so much for your inspiration and I hope you are carrying on finding new subjects and loving it.
