Hi everyone! Happy Thanksgiving to all of the Americans among us and Happy Thursday to everyone else. Today is hard for me, I am both really happy and sad. This time last year I was waking up with my husband at my parent's house and getting ready for a day of celebrating and relaxing with my family. We were lucky enough to have a bunch of our friends from the UK visiting for Thanksgiving as well, so it really was a whole day of merriment and games and lots and lots of food. I am so grateful and thankful we had the opportunity to do that last year as this year is so starkly different. I am really sad not to be in Pennsylvania with my family today, but I am happy and grateful that they are all healthy and we will still be able to call them later to be as "together" as we can be. My husband is great and is still helping me to cook a Thanksgiving feast today - even if it's just for 2.. and a half.. of us I know we will be able to celebrate together again and I hope everyone can remain healthy in the meantime.
I really do feel for anyone going into the holiday season feeling isolated and lonely, it's such a difficult time and I hope that places like here will feeling welcoming and able to help get support!
Wrapping this up though.. I wanted to share a stuffing recipe that I am trying out today. My husband never had this type of stuffing before coming to Thanksgiving in the USA and I thought it would be great to recreate today. delish.com/uk/cooking/recip... is the link if you want to try it. It's very simple, covering bread cubes with lots of herbs, chicken stock, eggs and baking to create a delicious side dish. It's my favourite part of the Thanksgiving meal and I am especially excited for it this year as carbs have been a girl's best friend during pregnancy.
What is everyone else cooking or eating this week/weekend? I hope everyone has a really lovely weekend and takes care

Hi Jerry! Thanks for sharing your beautiful banana cake, it looks truly delicious! I completely agree we will be able to make up for it when it's safe. I'm really sorry to hear about your Christmas plans. I hope it's great weather for you so you can take a nice walk and enjoy the beautiful nature where you live! That's great news to hear about your son! It's amazing how priorities change for the better and I'm very happy for you Hope you have a lovely weekend as well!
A very happy Thanksgiving to you and all our American members SadieHU. I'm always fascinated by the festival days of other nations. I'm so sorry this one isn't quite as festive as last year's. But what a wonderful thing to have celebratory event like this as a reminder of all the things we can manage to be thankful for. I hope it will be as happy a day as possible for you and make sure you do go for the carbs, because, before long, that little bundle of joy's going to be with you and you'll have no excuse to take solace in them! Your stuffing recipe sounds great and I guess that for us it would go down well with a Christmas turkey too, so we don't have to miss out. Happy Thanksgiving!!! 🦃🦃🦃
Thank you so much Hidden ! Definitely great advice about the carbs 😂 any excuse!! I think this stuffing really would work well with a Christmas turkey too if you ever wanted to try it You are so right about using today as a reminder for all of things we are thankful for! This year has definitely shown us what is truly important and I hope we can all come out on the other side, stronger and more grateful! Thank you for the reminder! Hope you have a great weekend!!
Happy Thanksgiving from a Michigander! Our gathering will be very small this year too. Just 4. My sister and her two sons. One works from home and the other is a mechanic with no public contact directly in a dealership that is very strict about precautions thank heavens! My brother-in-law is still hospitalized. We are having all the usual foods just in smaller amounts with the table settings spaced as far apart as possible as she has a large table. I’m the pie person. Pumpkin as it’s the guys favorite. My sister does the stuffing as her turkey is the best ever. Squash, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, cranberry sauce and lots of nibbles. I have Christmas. Hopefully things will be less restrictive by then!
That sounds like the perfect day Gillyflower18 , although I'm really sorry to hear about your brother in law and hope he gets better very soon! I hope you have the loveliest day despite the changes and hopefully it calms down a bit for Christmas too!
Oh, Spinner! That sounds like our usual “every Thanksgiving” menu, too! We’re in Dallas, TX ... No big celebration this year but it was still a very happy day!
I’m sorry it took me so long to reply. There was some thing wrong with my connection and it wouldn’t allow me to reply. Yes if we tried to change anything everyone would throw a fit!🤣🤣🤣. We get to be creative at Christmas!
You never told us you have a cat!
Here we are fine and having a buffet party here tomorrow to celebrate the fact it's a year since I left that toxic job and I feel I made the right decision to leave off my own accord.
Last night it was chicken and jacket potato for dinner and lunch today was smoked salmon and scrambled eggs which I enjoyed.
Congratulations on one year since leaving your toxic job! Such a courageous decision and one that should absolutely be celebrated with a buffet party. I hope you have the best time
We do have a cat!! She is a 4.5 year old tabby and she is our world! I think it will be a big adjustment for her when the baby arrives soon, but I'm looking forward to having my 2 girls together.
Your meals sound delicious as always, enjoy dinner and have a fab time tomorrow and the weekend!
Baby's mate Percy who is 16 as well is a brown and white tabby and Baby herself is a very spoilt ginger tabby!
Percy wasn't happy when her mother got herself a kitten a full brown tabby called Luis who is 5 now and was very vocal on the meows when her mum had rung me to see how I was back in March 2019 when there had been a scene at the toxic job that had turned nasty after I had been interrogated by the line manager about what was an appointment I was off to for and was I pregnant which had caused a lot of upset.
Another colleague there had said to me how I don't have to tell anyone anything if I don't want to!
I'm so sorry you had to go through that and so glad you are out of that environment now! Percy and Baby sound absolutely lovely and must be such good company during lockdown. Hope you have a great buffet tonight!
