Yesterday i achieved nothing and the time dragged on and on.My sleep pattern is shot away and i barely slept an hour.

Doctor M recently prescribed Melatonin, and apart from making me a tad woozy ,it has'nt helped my sleep one iota, but i am sticking with it as he said it takes a while to kick in.It is now 3 weeks and i thought i would have had some positive results by now.

Sleep has always been problematic for me and i must have tried every sleep aid going, but non have helped at all. It could well be that i'm one of these people who need very little sleep?

Hi secrets22.

Have you tried caffiene free coffee or tea, I had a sleep problem about a year ago, after I changed to Decaf tea, it helped me to sleep, not all night, but at least five or six hours.

Good luck! 😀🌈

Hi secrets. Sorry to hear you're not sleeping well. You may laugh at this suggestion but a few years back when my husband had the same problem, I read that a couple of drops of lavender essential oil on a tissue or hanky placed under the pillow at night was quite effective, do I did this and it worked, he slept very well. Of course, if smells like that affect you then it would be no good but just thought I'd share that with you. x

Ask the GP to refer you to a sleep clinic if nothing is working for you. People often don’t know these clinics can be available based on their symptoms, so I would discuss it with your GP to see if you fit the criteria. 👍😊

Hi secrets22, my commiserations to you. I actually am a bad sleeper too in my old age, no matter what I try, but I hope that the melatonin helps you eventually. I'm having a tussle with pain in my shoulder at nights at the moment, which is extra aggravating, but whatever the cause of my sleeplessness I do find it helps not to get frustrated about it, but to give in to the wakefulness. If I really can't go off or get back off to sleep. I get up, have tea, read my book or play a computer game or two, write that poem which feels like a masterpiece at 2am and quite the reverse at 8am, and if I then need a nap at 2pm, I have one, completely without guilt. After all, I've earned it, after doing the night shift! 🙏

Hi, Secrets, I put lavender oil on a cotton ball and place it on a face towel on my pillow. Along with a hot bath before bed and deep breathing of the lavender goes far in helping me relax on those hard-to-get-to-sleep nights.

If you've tried other remedies without success, have you spoken again with your doc? After 3 weeks on melatonin with no improvement, a ff-up call might be helpful?

A dear friend suffered for years with extreme constipation and tried every otc aid available but to little good effect. Chronically ill and hospitalized, I told the doc of her problem and he ordered a prescription that made all of the difference. A different situation but my friend hadn't stressed before how extreme her problem was with her general doc.

I used to think I had trouble sleeping - but I worked out that I was just sleeping too much!

For a year or two I hardly ever got to bed before midnight - and set my alarm for 09:30 - but, since the clocks went back I now get up at 08:00.
